That system on the face of it (plug and play) is no more compatible with UK wiring legislation than any of the other systems discussed elsewhere on this thread. I don't see anything to suggest it is built with UK in mind, it is more built to the standards that exist in most of Europe (800W (600W for Germany) without needing approval from network operator though you still need to inform them).richbee wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 12:14 pm For a slightly different take on the balcony solar - I got this mail from sunsynk today - plug in system with 2kWh battery built in - limited to 800w for UK. Comes with its own ct coil. No idea about cost, but good that systems are being developed with UK in mind

My Hoymiles was due toooo be delivered yesterday.
Got a letter today from Parcel Force.
If I pay £56.22 today they will deliver tomorrow.
What does that include - VAT & import duty, and Parcelforce charges?
I was hoping that there would only be VAT + DHL charges - although I guess 20% vat would be £40 ish, so charges could be another 15 without them trying too hard

I watched the CEO with his very enthusiastic video this morning and he specifically mentioned UK compatibility, and that it would auto- block export via the (wireless) CT coil, presumably to try to get round the DNO declaration requirementchris_n wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 2:48 pmThat system on the face of it (plug and play) is no more compatible with UK wiring legislation than any of the other systems discussed elsewhere on this thread. Re: Balcony solar PV
It's nothing to do with export being the problem it is the plug bit that isn't compatible, all to do with ring mains and bypassing protective devices as discussed many times on this thread already. If it is compliant with G98 the DNO can't refuse your connection anyway, if you are connecting any generation equipment regardless of whether it shouldn't export you are obliged to tell them.richbee wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 4:33 pmI watched the CEO with his very enthusiastic video this morning and he specifically mentioned UK compatibility, and that it would auto- block export via the (wireless) CT coil, presumably to try to get round the DNO declaration requirementchris_n wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 2:48 pmThat system on the face of it (plug and play) is no more compatible with UK wiring legislation than any of the other systems discussed elsewhere on this thread. Re: Balcony solar PV
After 600 or so posts, is there a way to summarise whether these things are any good?
Just wondering about whether to spend a potential Christmas bonus on a balcony solar PV with battery set-up for next year - I miss not having solar to play with at home!

They are great Dan. Any plans to drive back to Holland? Could pick up from their and bypass the landing taxes. I will likely fit another Hoymiles to my own place next year.

Re: Balcony solar PV
Can't comment on the standalone battery packs that may be clever enough to integrate through a wallplate and discharge on demand.
I did see a video and it might have been posted here on balcony solar with an associated pack. Before I bought into that I'd make sure I had enough excess generation beyond that which I can set the home to consume.
All the usual background loads, immersion if applicable and Winter heating can chew through lots of PV power before pack storage is needed.
How big a bonus?
The cons are landing duties, non full integration with Hoymiles monitoring software due to geographic location and the 'plug'. A very personal choice.
I am pretty certain I'll be buying in Europe next May and will possibly buy more than one while there. The whole plug & play concept is so groovy it should be embraced far & wide.
