New tariffs from 1 January

I can understand your EV to be incompatible with Intelligent Octopus Go, but how can your EV be incompatible with Octopus Go ?

Is there a list of compatible EVs? I want to check my daughter's Kona but it looks like she needs to apply to do that.

Bit of a moving feast! Some BEVs have come and gone with compatibility. Ford threw a wobbly and decided IOG was against their terms a month or two back, Kia has been flaky, etc.. Best to get a compatible charging point (Zappi or Ohme) which works with any IOG and any BEV.

Thanks for that, it looks like she is good to go, apparently you have to set the Zappi as a dumb charger and let the car and iphone deal with everything

I meant intelligent now that the Zappi is approved. She is on go (and export at 8p) but intelligent seems more sensible with better export.

Hadn't expected it to be quite such a minefield, Octopus have such a plethora of rates. Yes IOG seems the best of them and my EV will qualify but I have some questions:

1. will it end up fighting with the settings on my Zappi charger (which is already quite complicated)
2. will it discharge my house battery (which I can probably prevent by setting a Scheduled Charge with notional SoC)
3. how does the cheap power for the house work out in practice, is it only 2330 - 0530 (which stops a bit early for my intended HP)?

I have all the tech you have plus heat pumps and being on IOG is very cost effective.
Our EV is a Tesla which works pretty well with IOG, the export tariff also help minimise costs.
Depending on what type of EV you have, IOG has been an excellent tariff for us

Well I tried that link for a bit of fun and tried the first dozen charger options with my EV6 and got a sorry response each and every time ???

and there was me contemplating a smart meter install in a moment of weakness, problem solved and resolve stiffened again ha!

OK, thanks I will check on the Myenergi forum as that has got some well-informed contributors also.

I don’t have a zappi charger but when you plug the car in, intelligent works out how much charge you need by the departure time you input into the app. The more charge you need the longer the schedule intelligent will provide. Anything scheduled outside 23:30-05:30 will also be off peak.

You tell the app how much charge you need and by when and it decides when to charge.

If you plug in at 0800 and tell it you need 80% by 1100 you're almost guaranteed 3 additional hours of cheap-rate power to top up your batteries, run the washer, heat your DHW, and charge your storage heaters.

Have just signed up to Octopus using a loyalty link, all good so far except they originally said first pmt would be 27 Dec but it has now changed to 19th (Tuesday), must check the balance!

Myenergi forum says preferable to integrate with Zappi rather than the car so as not to discharge the house battery into it.

ATM if I run the car flat it takes about 2 nights at 7kW x 7 hours to recharge.

So I could split that into 4 evenings by plugging in at 1700 as they tell you but requesting 25% by 2030 the first evening etc? Then AIUI it could also cook the supper at cheap rate and boost charge the house battery for the rest of the evening. Sounds too good to be true or have I misunderstood sthg?

You can't request the car charged by 2030 any more! You can only request 0400-1100 as the finish time. It is still plenty open to abuse though!

Once I get the HP installed any extension to the night rate times will be very useful.
