We're up to 20GW on Grid Energy Numbers right now, looking good

21.2GW now. And we're only exporting 0.2GW. Reckon curtailment must be clicking in now as not much gas on the grid and coal's off?

There was curtailment overnight but there is not much at the moment.
Less than 1GW from the record now. :xx:

And demand forecast has another 2GW of demand up to 17:00.
Will it be wind, gas or import to take the strain.

Is there a possibility for a new wind record today?

Its on the brink, but we still have tomorrows stronger wind but maybe tempered by lower demand.

Just a little more between 5pm and 6pm today would nail it.

Gridwatch.co.uk at least showing a new record of 17.485GW from slightly earlier today.

Yes just before 5pm, so highest ever on Gridwatch, highest previous 17.444GW which was from the last record on 10th Jan 2023.

But not so sure on Energy Numbers, I saw 21.7GW and maybe 21.8GW (can't quite remember), but at the last record on 10th Jan 23, I had screenshotted 21.9GW,
https://camelot-forum.co.uk/phpBB3/view ... 344#p26344

..... and on the same day Joeboy posted he saw 22GW.
https://camelot-forum.co.uk/phpBB3/view ... 348#p26348

So it may or may not be a record but tomorrow comes with more wind so it might only be a record for a few hours.

Back to significant curtailment overnight before tomorrows higher wind forecast.

Wind forecast and actual wind generation.

Other records more important now I think.

According to the iamkate site, today wind is likely to equal the amount generated last year. We'll only get a very slight increase on last year by the end of 2023, which is a bit disappointing, but that's wind for you. Same for solar, so total renewables generation won't be up much.

Grid carbon intensity will hit a record low of about 155g/kWh, beating 2020's 168g/kWh, driven by a fall in fossil fuel generation to a record low, made possible by a further circa 0.5GW fall in average electricity demand to below 30GW. Wonder when it was last below that? And also a resumption of net imports via inter-connectors (the emissions implications of which I'm never quite sure of, although I realise a significant proportion is French Nuclear).

All this achieved despite another fall in nuclear's contribution.

Progress is still not fast enough, but installation rates for renewables are rocketing thanks to the situation in Ukraine, and coupled with grid improvements, by end of the decade we should have made a lot of progress. Heating via a heat pump will be super low carbon by then.

Lots of curtailment going on today.
Looks like 3GW of headroom on the current wind forecast and we are at 21.3GW on Energy Numbers, so we are still close to the record.
