Insulated floor boarding?

We have a height discrepancy of 10mm at daughterlys place. The hall is lower than all the adjoining rooms. We are having new carpets and underlay laid in New Year. I can easily rip a load of 10mm board to even the height but wondered if anyone knows of a 10mm screw able board with insulation properties?

Any experience with these? Cheers!

That is the first one I found, not a reccomendation.

I agree. Laminate underlay came to mind immediately before I read C Paul's reply.

Another idea would be Fermacell board which can be used in flooring.

Also. Spacetherm Aerogel Insulation, but make sure you are sitting down comfortably before you look at the price.

Joe, we had a similar problem and used Wickes own brand wooden/laminate floor underlay.

Not too expensive, did the job and doesn’t compress - well, at least not too much.

The gap is actually 20mm. I don't know what has went on here. Thinking maybe laminated board glues onto soundproofing board and the whole lot ripped up?

I am now looking for thick sound/insulation boards at 18 or 20mm might just go chipboard but looking at alternatives.



I wonder if OSB has any insulation value?

If you have 20mm to play with have you considered the boards, iirc you could get some with 10mm pipe already embedded, but certainly at 20mm you have lots of options.

20mm is the total so would include the underlay and carpet. If I can get it all in at that height there will be no need for the dreaded door planing.

Wondering if I could do a 5mm sheet of insulation then screw a 5mm engineered board onto and through the insulation?

The old-fashioned way (which we used on a boarded front room floor about 45 years ago) was 3/4" Cellotex wood fibre board with hardboard over that, nailed right through the lot. It has worked very well, originally we had just cheap carpet tiles over it but eventually we could afford a fitted carpet, which is still in relatively good condition.!
