Amazing how quickly battery chemistry is evolving.
Yes it’s lower energy density than LFP but potentially much cheaper and other interesting electrochemical properties

The market direction is interesting!

For years we’ve been told that we’d have 600-mile BEVs with batteries half the size and weigh of current 200-mile battery packs. However the reality is that we’ve moved from NMC to lower-capacity, bigger, heavier, but cheaper LFP batteries. Now we’re moving even further in that direction with Sodium-ion.

I suppose the most interesting part is the high charge rate for small batteries. You could charge a 25kWh battery at 100kW, or a 50kWh battery at 200kW, so longer journeys could be undertaken with lots of ultra-quick charging stops.

3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
6x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (14.4kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Yeah agree it’s very interesting- the pace of development in battery chemistry is really impressive and has as you say opened up the market at the lower cost end rather than endlessly squeezing bigger kWh packs into big luxury vehicles
