Just saw this - can't work out if it is a really good idea or not

It sounds like you lose the benefit of 7.5p/kWh for the rest of the house and batteries etc - but your EV charging is free, in return for them controlling the charge & export from the vehicle...guessing this might be the future

That narrows it down a bit!
Maybe not the future then

Re: Octopus V2G tariff
And you need a V2G chargers on the front of your house. While these exist, I’ve never seen one offered for sale. The “trial” went of for so long that the connector is obsolete without them ever bothering to roll it out…

Re: Octopus V2G tariff
I have a memory of 4.5 to 5k for the home V2G installation back in the day. I wonder how many went in uk? Its a great idea but not quite roll out to big numbers practical?
If they'd rejig it to IO terms plus use when EV plugged in, with maximum owner discharge setting and a graded payment time/demand dependent for the power bought from EV then I could see huge uptake. That would be Micro Nodal, right?
As a first step and actually doing it?

Imagine the existing IOG terms but with a vast battery to charge/discharge at 7.4kW!Joeboy wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 8:24 amI have a memory of 4.5 to 5k for the home V2G installation back in the day. I wonder how many went in uk? Its a great idea but not quite roll out to big numbers practical?

I’m sure they’ll want to control is from afar and I’d be very keen for them not to! My plan would be to charge on cheap rate then set it to discharge at 500W or 1kW and let my house inverter do its thing…

Re: Octopus V2G tariff
Although maybe as we are now seeing a number of new EVs that have V2L via the type 2 AC port maybe this will make a comeback.

There was an article on the news pages today about this I wonder if I can find it again
