Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Maybe it will be 6 hours in total ?94JDH wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 9:50 amWas this what you were looking for previously about their rules:
"From January 2024 to the end of March 2024 the ESO will look to run a further six tests. If the forecast volume of participation in the service exceeds 1.25GW at this stage, these tests will be competitively tendered, without the use of a GAP.
DFS tests will last for one hour."
Found on another forum post, so the half hour broke that rule

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
There is a theory that it was a bonus special because of the leap year to test everything still works. We used to do tests on radar systems for when leap seconds are introduced.Yuff wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 10:04 amMaybe it will be 6 hours in total ?94JDH wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 9:50 amWas this what you were looking for previously about their rules:

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Octopus’ systems get confused by a bank holiday so probably good that they test leap years!

Even lower requirements and only for 30 mins again!
Same time as yesterday

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Hmmmmm, another half hour test 6pm to 6:30pm with a volume of 50MW which is less volume that Octopus has.
So its a race to the bottom, sub 50p / kWh ?

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Guessing their seeing how low they can get their bids and also don't need to rely on Octopus with this one if they bid too high, plenty of fish in the sea....
Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
The two largest are Octopus and British gas so in the earlier competitive sessions it was either one was going to be rejected unless they bid the same. But now both can easily be rejected as still plenty of volume from the smaller ones to meet the small volume.
I'm not really seeing the point of this as why would the national grid only want to reduce demand by 50MW ?, its nothing, we have single battery plants larger than that with two hour durations. When it was 500MW its just over 1% of total demand on a high peak day and equivalent of a nuke reactor or an interconnector. But 50MW is nothing.
The only thing I can think of is a measure of sensitivity, i.e. how low can it go before folk stop bothering with it. But they risk folk losing interest and not returning.
Some of the smaller providers must be well peeved as they have spent good money setting up their operations on a false promise.

I agree with all of that.nowty wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 12:33 pmThe two largest are Octopus and British gas so in the earlier competitive sessions it was either one was going to be rejected unless they bid the same. Looks like NG are trying to kill this idea! Maybe the operators of the emergency diesel generation plants have been lobbying?

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
I can't see any notification or invitation for this one. I just checked and the last email notification was 2nd Feb, I think I found the next one and yesterday's by going to my account after seeing the alert here. But I don't see anything about today's anywhere. I don't do social media, or even whatsapp, but they did say somewhere "Opt in each time via your app or dashboard to take part in a Session and earn Octopoints."
