Feedback from the Webinar this morning,

Sign Ups
Plenty of folk signed up, even more than last season, nearly all domestic.



Engagement
They could not fill the requested reduction volumes in the first few sessions, they put it down to folk having a learning curve. I put it down to most taking some time before they worked out how to boost the baseline.
They seem to think they can still fill high volumes with low payouts without even trying it.



Peak Session
Peak delivery on the 02/02/24 session approached 20kWh per participant.
I think you will find Nowty Towers delivered a bit more on that day.




Critical Areas
More monitoring of consumer poor performance and gaming, baseline inflation.
Inappropriate use of IOG pollutes historical days.
Review of revenue proposals, i.e. less booty next year.



Next Season
Looks like its still happening next season,
I suspect no more guaranteed minimum payments, but if there is a live session they need to show the money if they are to fill a large requirement volume.
Maybe some penalties if the supplier does not deliver the offered volumes.
Maybe some more changes to baselines.

Thanks nowty. I reckon they will struggle to find a way to work out a "fair" baseline for each household. More likely they just put a cap on a baseline rather than use the actual baseline? It's not like they can stop households on IOG from participating in this, without losing significant volume I(I imagine), but they would not want to benefit those househoolds which regularly export.

I'd be a bit worried by what looks like an actual maximum deliverable of 400 MW. If the energy providers gamed the system last winter by shutting the power plants before crunch times, I wonder what is stopping someone like Octopus doing the same. Looking at those graphs it looks like the first 200MW does come from minor behaviuor changes but the rest comes from those with functional export systems, and they really want to cut us out of hte loop.

Theoretically the DNOs have a list of all battery installs in the country so it should be possible to know what an absolute maximum deliverable amount is, but I think most people are going to think "What's the point if all I get is a fiver"? ie no change to behaviour. I agree that anything past 300 MW is going to cost them more than they want to pay, so I doubt we see any actual test sessions beyond that figure and just a bunch of pathetic, parsimonious bids as with the past few days.

In the Q&A session, they also mentioned that some other balancing services were complaining that they were losing revenue on test days because of the reduced demands from the test session. I suspect thats why they seemed to change the days on which tests were performed.

Originally the test days were on days of low'sh margin but not too low to warrant a live test. Then they seemed to consistently completely ignore the low'ish margin days and have them on days with massive amounts of over capacity.

Its just my theory but I cannot imagine why else they changed their selection criteria of a test day.

It's a while since I actually saved anything (and even then it wasn't much) but exporting during the SSs has been very worthwhile...
