Octopus Tariffs
Re: Octopus Tariffs
Rich, Cosy plus OO fixed is absolutely better than Flux unless one can maximise the high rate export.
But I expect the fixed outgoing rate to drop soon, and you need a heat pump to be on Cosy.

Re: Octopus Tariffs
Crikey - with this weekends renewables glut my daily tariff today has fallen to 11p. I’m not sure what to do as I did loads of washing yesterday when it was 15p!

Re: Octopus Tariffs
Ive had sub 5p per kwh electricity since midnight.
Currently slow roasting a lamb, heating the house, and doing wash loads whilst the o/h cuts the grass, and getting paid 5p/kwh.
With all of that, we are struggling to use a ton of electricity. But have so far used 18.4kwh today.
Solar generation is actually hampering the situation, as we are using that instead of exporting at 15p and importing at negative cost.
Battery set up cannot happen soon enough.

Re: Octopus Tariffs
Just had a look at our first month’s bill on Shape Shifters and trying to work out if it’s saving the business money vs the normal tariff– looks like it is.
Rate Consumption Cost
Overnight cheapest rate - 15.65p/kWh 639.6 kWh £100.091
Daytime low rate - 17.33p/kWh 1486.0 kWh £257.519
4-7pm peak rate - 34.50p/kWh 194.3 kWh £67.034
Total consumption 2319.8kWh at an average rate of 18.30p/kWh - £424.64
Standing charge at £2/day.
Our previous tariff was 25p/kWh and a standing charge of £3/day,
so I think we've saved £150 on the lower tariff, and a further £30 on the lower standing charge- so a reduction in our bills of £180 in one month .
(We have also earned about £45 in April for the 300kWh of excess solar power exported to the grid)

Re: Octopus Tariffs
As I'm a nerd, I've just crunched the numbers on May and June since switching to Octopus Shape Shifters, and again there's a not insignificant saving of £175 and £155 for those months respectively vs if we had stayed on the flat rate tariff.
If that carries on across the year, that will have reduced our electricity costs by about £2k - not to be sniffed at!

Little humble brag - the Octopus Business Energy team came over to our company to do a little feature about us and our switch to the Shape Shifters tariff - read all about it here

I’m seeing reports that you can now combine vanilla Go with Outgoing. So even if you don’t qualify for IOG you can still buy at 9p and sell at 15p.

Re: Octopus Tariffs
Yep, the matrix has changed, competition from rivals seems to be having an effect.
We might be in arbitrage nirvana for a while longer.
