Re: Where am I ?
I was coincidentally near Dungeness on a technical job for the last (?) total eclipse in the UK, initially the sky was overcast but that was perfect as you could safely see the sun disappearing through it!
Also by sheer coincidence (I am sure!) a plant maintainance man and his collegues turned up too - with lots of spare glasses out of welding goggles, so we all had a brilliant safe view when the sun came out and then disappeared.
What struck me was how cold it went, and how quiet too as all the birds stopped singing.
Enjoy this one!

Re: Where am I ?
It’s all over, this is my pic which is a bit crap.
But a fellow eclipse chaser air dropped me this one she took on an iPhone with a specialised App. To the actual eye it looked even better with a lager prominence and a couple beads of red colour. The diamond ring effect at the end of the eclipse was mind blowing, I don’t recall seeing that before.

Looks amazing - glad you were able to see it without too much cloud cover.nowty wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 8:05 pm It’s all over, this is my pic which is a bit crap.

Are you planning to visit the next one as well?
We got chatting to the stargazing guy on the Norway cruise the other week & he reckoned eclipse chasing is, addictive!

Re: Where am I ?
I hope to see 6 in my lifetime.
I’ve done Germany in 1999, USA in 2017 and now Mexico in 2024.
One in 2026, goes through north Portugal and Spain.
One in 2027, goes through Tunisia, Egypt and Saudi which is a better bet for clearer skies.
After that it gets harder, more distant and difficult to get to places, or the weather conditions are not likely to be great.
Then the limits of our mere lifespans become the limiting factor.

Re: Where am I ?
I managed to blag another image from a different tourist who used the same App (solar snap) using a standard iPhone.
I think this looks more like we saw in that it has a larger corona, but it lacks the detail shown in the other picture around the edge of the moon. It’s also a little more blurry as the corona has more sharper structure to it.
And even the other one does not show the red and orange colours in that detail which could be seen with the naked eye.

Re: Where am I ?
New location today and I finally found some solar PV, this with an interesting construction.
The clue to this place is the beach was used for the iconic beach scene with Bo Derek in the film “10” in 1979. It’s also famous for deep sea fishing.

Re: Where am I ?
Blimey, that's the first time I've noticed the beach, I've previously been focussed on Bo's assets...
