I have now been opted out of FIT deemed export payments and on Octopus Outgoing since late Nov 23 so I have a full 5 months worth of experience with it in the less sunny parts of the year so I thought I would give an update to how it’s going. :oO:

If I was still on deemed exports, I would be getting a little less than £100 a year as I only had it on my first 4kW FIT system. It was guaranteed and RPI indexed, so that’s what I have given up. My new export rate on Octopus Outgoing (anytime) is 15p / kWh fixed until late Nov. With wholesale prices currently at around 7p or 8p / kWh I am surprised the rate has not yet been lowered for new applicants but there seems to be competition in the supplier market with other suppliers offering similar deals.

Firstly, the export has more than paid for itself with the extra income on the Octopus Saving Sessions alone, as export was allowed over the last Winter. At least £200 was attributed to the export element but whether the saving sessions will run again or be as lucrative, who knows.

Ignoring the Saving Sessions, my actual export payments so far have been,
Dec - Exported 76kWh = £11.40
Jan - Exported 179kWh = £26.85
Feb - Exported 252kWh = £37.80
Mar - Exported 591kWh = £88.65
Apr - Exported 978kWh = £146.70
Total over 5 months - Exported 2076kWh = £311.40

Now, some of the leccy exported was imported at the 7.5p cheapslot price so its not all profit. Very difficult for me to work out exactly how much but comparing last years and this years import from the grid during those 5 months I’ve used an extra 298kWh which has cost me £44.70. So, already its smashed the deemed exports income with another 7 months of the higher generating months accompanied with lower heating demand months to come.

I’m starting to wonder if its possible to have a negative bill over the entire year in an all electric house with 2 EVs. :whako:

I already have a large negative bill with FIT payments and Ripple project rebates but could just my own home installed solar PV, alone power my house and transport ALL year using my octopus account as a virtual battery ? :xx:
18.7kW PV > 109MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 26MWh generated

You’re an inspiration Nowty :xl:

I’m following in your footsteps - IOG, elec only household. The tariffs only been IOG for a month, so early days - but roughly we pay £2-£3/day last winter on GO electric, and this last month is approx zero/day. That’s excluding the FIT. We can still do better! I plan on lots more PV - i think another 2.8kW on the garage this year, and maybe another 6kW the following. That 6kW is why I’ve bought into Mrs Robl’s garden office request, as I see it as a handy support structure:-)

This shows the sheer difference of operating procedure on deemed exports in 2023 vs Octopus Outgoing paid export in 2024.
Complimented with the insane 7.5p import and 15p export tariff of Octopus IOG.

Same day 23rd May for both years.

2023, Deemed export, self use whatever you can.
Almost negligible import but only 10kWh exported. Almost zero cost but less than £1 income on the deemed export.
Image

2024, On paid export its export all day and import all night.
Now its a cost of £4.17 but £9.48 in export payments.
So its £5.31 net income verses less than £1 on deemed exports. :xx:
Image

And yesterday is an even more extreme example, same day 24th May for both years.
2023, negligible cost but less than £1 in deemed exports.
Image

2024, import cost was only 39p but a record £10.94 in export payments.
Over £10 net income for yesterday.
In comparison due to low wind, Ripple GF only made me 39p yesterday but at least that wiped out my import cost. :xx:

I don’t have as much PV as I would like due to lack of roof space, however running 3 EV’s and driving on average 2k a month impacts my monthly efforts, however a free charger has popped up close by so I am hoping my exporting makes a profit whilst the charger is available.
SWMBO is not happy at the 4 min drive to collect/drop off fir the charger but hoping to twist her arm :cat-grin:
Batteries are charging and discharging 24/7 these days, averaging 40 kWh export but hoping with some decent weather to approach 50 KWh per day

I'm averaging 47kWh export per day this month and today I should break yesterdays export record of 72kWh.

I'm going for 80kWh export today, but its going to be close. :xx:

I could actually export into the cheapslot period and turn the charge rate up higher overnight but it gets complicated as I need to turn the charge rate down in the daytime to avoid the batteries becoming full. :whako:

If the weather here was average I’d be closer to 50 kWh daily export but it has been shocking. I can’t compare the figures to last year as I had my inverter replaced in Feb, and it lumped all the data together for the previous 16 months, but my best month for solar was 611 which I suspect was May 23. So far this month I’ve generated 411 kWh and the forecast is pretty poor. All excess solar would go to export.
I had the underfloor heating on yesterday it was that chilly :freezing:

I get more confused by the day by all these Octopus tariffs.

I see on their website they are talking about 26.5p export with Intelligent Flux (one needs PV and batt to sign up)

Yes, Intelligent Octopus flux is 27.1 p per unit here (with the 12.25p Flux import rate), but for when you won't need to import at all Intelligent Octopus gives a 30.5p evening peak export (or import) rate, 22.9p the rest of the day.
