Finally cleared my greenhouse

We have lived in our current bungalow for 15 years and never got round to refurbishing the greenhouse.
When we moved in the roof leaked like a sieve.
Finally replaced the roof with twin wall polycarb
This is todays view

Nicely done, I love the environment in hot houses of any type, that fecund smell in the air as it all goes crazy. What ye growing? We've been growing a variety of peppers and chilli's in our sun room the last few years. We get them started from previous year seed around Feb and by now we'll be down to about thirty strong plants out of maybe sixty planted seeds. I give away about ten and keep the rest. We have one Scotch Bonnet chilli that is showing signs of being a cracker. Hopefully its look at the moment will be mirrored in the taste and heat come Sept.



The Red Cayenne have started to flower and first fruit are there. Always a great moment!


If anyone fancies some seed Early Winter just say, I'll also try and remember to make the offer when we get there.

Joe, if you have good strong plants, and the space, chillies can over winter and start again the following spring.

Can give you a bit of a head start.

I tried it a few years and had one plant out of about 15 made it through. I cut back to one stick and watered about once per month. Not sure what i'm doing wrong there (apart from killing them). A pal had their ones sail through Winter with no intervention bar a little water. I might try that approach at the end of the year?

Might be worth trying with a couple of good ones - I suppose they’re semi-dormant so don’t like it too hot or too much watering.

Good thing to grow, though. Some can be so productive and the taste can be something else - particularly the ones you can’t easily get in the suppers.

Quite like the lemon chillies, especially in a salad.

Wife’s side of the family are Hungarian - they grow a very big chilli that’s a light green colour, not too hot (usually) and super in a summer salad. About the same size and shape as the long sweet peppers you can get.

So far this has been a very good year for the toms.







These are all gardener’s delight. The bottom picture shows those in the conservatory which are now nearly 6ft high with the biggest fruit at 20mm dia. Heating is all by the sun and they need careful husbandry to prevent overheating. The fan is on during sunny days.
When the weather turns cold and wet, those by the stable will look unwell but still produce a crop.
