cheap IKEA single induction hob (portable) £35+ £4 delivery

Wife bought a big IKEA 24/7 granular finish non stick wok the other week, no portable single hob induction jobbies at the time but they are now back in stock & lower price currently @£35 + £4 mainland delivery (VFM)

(it was £5 collection in-store @ Milton Keynes branch)

SO, "if" anyone is wanting to test one out (rather than the no name ones on amazon) they are pretty cost effective right now.
That & those of you who might celebrate the season of excess needing a spare hot plate that can be packed away after the festival of gluttony.
Ikea do have supply issues, so if you have considered one don't delay, they oft sell for nigh on double the price on ebay.

OK, ok, considering all my cookware are induction compatible, finally I am willing to give one a go and being a max of 2kW, will not overload my battery inverter.

Just bought one, being delivered early next week. As I am a very sceptical anti induction hob person, your going to get a very honest review from me. I am hoping I'm going to hate it and resell it on ebay.

Well how long is the guarantee and is it with IKEA ? any one any knowledge of IKEA's policy in this respect never having been to one of their outlets or bought from them before

I was very sceptical about induction hobs - always enjoyed cooking with fire. Couple of weeks away, used a two ‘ring’ induction hob.

Very impressed, boils water quicker than our gas hob, no waste heat escaping up the side of the pan. Using a frying pan - easy peasy. Very controllable and responsive.

The Schott Glass ceramic is easy peasy to clean - far easier than our gas hob.

Only downside, if you’ve got wet fingers, the touch controls can be a bit frustrating.

We’ll use the gas as long as we can - I do prefer the primitive/intuitive aspect to it, but could quite happily use an induction hob.

Tempted by the IKEA one for outside use in the ‘summer kitchen’.

Took me a long time to find but, "TILLREDA appliances have a 2-year guarantee".

I've fitted quite a few induction hobs over the years and without exception the customers have been really impressed with them, some of whom started out pretty sceptical. They do seem to be very efficient and oh so easy to clean. Easy to fit and no mucking about with gas pipes and what-not.

Wouldn't touch IKEA with a barge pole though

S’pose for £40, it’s a good introduction to the technology and can serve as an occasional extra ring or cooking your Crepe Suzette’s at the table sort of thing

They do (in general) look very sleek, bit disconcerting that nothing glows or gets ‘ot, but you quickly come to appreciate the technology.

I too was very hesitant to move from gas to induction. My previous experience of electric hobs hadn't been great: not much power, heat still comes after you've turned it down/off. However I *love* my induction hob. You cannot expect any electric hob to have the same raw power that gas has, but all the power goes into the pan with induction, so the result is so close you cannot tell the difference. Pans of water still boil quick enough. The controllability is there too. If you turn it off the heat going into the pan is zero. If you couple that with the sleek look and easy cleaning, the induction is a winner.

However, my inverter doesn't like my induction hob. The hob modulates power by instantaneously turning on and off, quicker than the inverter can react. My inverter manages to keep the grid power perfectly flat at zero most of the time while there is charge/space in my batteries. However when the hob is on the line wiggles about from importing to exporting a few hundred W.

I also have a one-ring portable induction hob. The only downside of that is its lowest setting is too high. Not a problem on the main induction hob which has a setting low enough to melt chocolate/butter...

2kW is 2kW - gas or electric, but fewer heat losses from the leccy (there will be some - the fan is not there for no good reason!) but at x5 or x6 for cost of leccy cf gas (unless cooking in the early hours), the economy is still on the side of gas.

My wife always turns the gas rings on full, for boiling - whatever the diameter of the saucepan. Wide shallow pans are better for gas.

Anyhow, even though the epay offerings usually have a name (dadada and ronronron!) and some are much cheaper, I’ve ordered one. At least there is a reliable 2 year warranty.

I know my wife will moan at me for this, but hopefully it will come in useful for Christmas (at least) and she might ‘come around’ and like it. I’ll try and report back….

Just got an update from Ikea, my induction hob is arriving tomorrow instead of Tuesday. Tomorrow I was planning to fry an omelette for dinner so may give it a go.
