Not sure how I feel about this, as someone very much on the edge of all of this and with a keen aversion to smart meters etc I was very surprised to see that Elexon had been tasked with co-ordinating demand flexibility offers. I suspect they will have to grow beyond their 200 staff presently employed if they are to do this competently but time will tell.

On the plus side if I understand correctly the consumer stands to gain with some of the slower big six being required to up their game in terms of flexible demand offerings;

OR......is it a case of;

On the down side are we going to see premium flexibility tariffs like some of the Octopus offerings diluted by the other big six being reluctant to go that far? ie is there a danger of dragging costs up to the average rather than down to the lowest market leading tariff ?

One to watch with interest;

The way I read it is the data from Elexon is going to be used to provide trigger events for the Demand Flexibility service (aka saving sessions). We already know that when they resume this November they will not stop at the end of next March and will be a permanent arrangement with splurge sessions coming on stream further down the line.

I'm not sure about the single point of registration of EV chargers, heatpumps, and home battery chargers though, I quite like keeping my cards close to my chest.

There may be a confliction coming where a national service competes with a supplier led service, I too fear the risk of premium Octopus tariffs being diluted.

Again from the perspective of a none user it will be a great shame if the interested parties are handed a regulator sponsored vehicle to stymie what is arguably the most proactive and innovative supplier in the market place.

Lets hope the consumer is championed over excessive profiteering.
