London to Shanghai via Paris. Always fancied that one, a bit of a bucket list wish. Probably best to start out in Cornwall for max distance?

Be hard pushed to find a train down these parts JB. Most were part exchanged for pasties back along.
The only ones that make it down here these days are free rollers that have escaped and drifted downhill via gravity through the country to Penzance

That's a bit sad,I assumed the network ran all the way out? Start in Wales then!

In fairness, according to the trip computer on my car, I'm averaging only 29mph.

Ze Germans husta laugh at me for driving in Berlin. It was so much worse than public transport.

I can bike to train I just have to book a ticket in advance for me + boike, it's not an issue.
Just because a national network is bad doesn't mean it's not worthy infrastructure, it means it's under-developed.

The point I'm making is we're investing in the wrong solution.

If rail is 25% more efficient should it not at the very least receive 25% more funding?

The thought bubble I've been having is if we divest from 4 wheel road goers and the expenses involved therein redirecting that outlay to rail; the residual wealth in the economy would finance a free to use rail network. Cost of ownership of my car was costing me 4 times what the car was worth every year for zero tangible benefit to my life.

Canals are pretty efficient too...I daresay it's a great complimentary solution to freight.

Just a couple of points:

Sillydin, legal pedal-power-assist in the UK is 15 or 18mph?

Smegal, 29mph will include a lot of stop/go if used in an urban environment (where top speed is often 30mph, or less - particularly in Wales😆😆😆). Not the same as driving throughout the night at less than that.🙂

You're confusing legal with unlicensed pedelec class O9o.

Above 25kmph and or 250W in the EU is technically an e-scooter. 750W in the US.
It makes no difference to it's near unsurpassed efficiency so I wonder why you bring it up? Now that you mention it though; given the reduced aero drag at 25kmph the range would be in the order of 35mile per kW. Most humans can sustain an output of 200W so it does of course get better than that in hybrid mode or muscle solo being >100km per kW with road tyres.

It's able to manouver around traffic marmalades and doesn't have to wait for the motorist in front to snap out of their daydream to proceed at a green light either. Which in a lottov cases makes it a hellova lot faster than a car in urbanity.

Walked to to local supermarket this morning. 6 E vehicles parked outside. Ranging from stowable boat type, fat tyred oversized bmx style, e scooters, tricycles. Must be at least 40% of the two wheeled vehicles here in the village are now E.

Also E bikes for sale via local supermarkets. A real tangible difference in uptake over the last few years.

I think the only real disadvantage from not having a 2 ton armoured bubble that's tearing up the road surface like no tomorrow built from exploitation south of the equator is having to be more imaginative about where to take the weed and hookers.

Weed and hookers are everywhere. Not sure of your point? The initial bike bits you posted were almost interesting, step down from the pulpit please. We've been bored this way before. :whako:

You do like to bang the old exploitation drum eh? Buy a plane ticket or even better, get on your bike, head South. Help out hands on. Everyone is waiting for you. :D

No point just being sensational and cross threading it was supposed to be a distasteful joke.

Exploitation..can't get this outtov my head..

nor the fact that we leverage our lifestyle from colonialization.

I am helping.

I don't have to go there to address the problem. The problem's in "the west" not "the south".
