Octopus Free Power Hours

#1

Post by nowty »

Received an email from Octopus offering me free leccy tomorrow.

Sign up here !
https://octopus.energy/free-electricity ... citysafety

Thankyou Octopus as the boots are very deep here at Nowty Towers.
And as I am normally exporting at that time ALL used leccy will be free and some will be re-exported back later for that little bit of extra credit. :xx:

"Our first Free Electricity session is Thursday 15 August from 1-2pm.
To take part, all you need to do is sign up before 1pm tomorrow, then get ready to power up.

Free Electricity... what's the catch?
During these super-green sessions, all the electricity you'd normally use will cost the same. Any extra power you use won't cost a thing. That means you can go to town on all those electricity-hungry household tasks, knowing you won't clock up a big bill afterwards.

How do you work out my normal use?
Any power you use above normal will be free – so how do we decide what’s normal? We'll look at your historical smart meter readings to work out your typical energy use at that time of day.
If the Session is on a weekday, we'll look at your half-hourly usage over the last 10 weekdays. If the Session is at the weekend, we'll look at your half-hourly usage over the last 4 weekend days. We'll not include days where a Session took place in these calculations. Once we know this ‘normal’ figure, we can use it as a baseline - any power you use above that baseline will be free."

I just got the email about this too - will gratefully take it but I'll be at work so won't be able to do much load shifting!

I got an invite too and signed up.

Are those who got an invite all in the same area? I'm right where Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex and Kent meet.
(just checked on the others on this thread, and the answer is no).
So I wonder why Octopus picked us?

I'm in it too... won't it simply be all Octopus customers? It says it's available even if you haven't got a smart meter...

30 solar thermal tubes, 2MWh pa in Stockport, plus Congleton and Kinlochbervie Hydros,
Most travel by bike, walking or bus/train. Veg, fruit - and Bees!

No, its only for Smart meter users and be a member of Octoplus, and you have to sign up to it. It does say if they cannot get your smart meter readings you will get an average credit.
