Not sure which is worse, the company being rolled up or the council selling the site off to be used as data centres ? I could be wrong/ out of touch but data centres do not sounds like big employers ?

Data centres have a high staffing impact when they're being built, but yes once they're up and running they're very light on humans, and extremely heavy on energy consumption. And increasingly it seems their actual output is Ai-generated memes for engagement farming on social media - really of little use at all! (sorry am getting increasingly anti-Ai)

I'm frequently in large central London data centres and less often in one of the very largest in the country. I very rarely see anyone else on the data centre floors.
Aside from front of house/security and in-house infrastructure teams (and perhaps very light remote hands), they're very lightly staffed once up and running.

I think if I lived in the area where Britishvolt had been planned I would be having a heated discussion with my councillor and MP about now.

This article talks about the power supply being requested for Musk's mega-scale Ai server farm - and it's of the order of 150MW

And this video takes you around inside it

Once its up and running, those server halls don't exactly need much human intervention. But I guess the manufacturers of all that IT hardware are happy.
