Fully expect this partnership will eventually lead to VW buying Lucid - but also expect VW's software division Cariad to be disbanded

I'm not aware of any interest by VW in Lucid?

Completely right it’s Rivian that VW is linking up with not Lucid. Doh.

Rivian are an interesting company. They seem well run, with good tech. Ironically, their total losses are more (possibly double) than the peak Tesla reached, before they became consistently profitable. But Rivian has higher sales than Lucid, and a much lower loss per vehicle sold (around $40k I think now).

So tough times ahead, and their share price is down ~90% from their high of ~$150, and down ~85% from their IPO (share launch) of $78, but the investment from VW should give them another year or two of runway, and they probably make for good partners. The shares are currently at ~$12, and down about 33% from their rally after the VW news broke.

I think they have a decent chance of making it, and I'm not nearly as skeptical of them, as I am of Lucid, which is now just financially propped up by the Saudi PIF. Only my personal opinion, but I don't think Rivian got production numbers high enough and costs low enough for their PU truck, before the Cybertruck came out. With the Cybertruck now outselling all other US BEV PU trucks combined, and last month, the 3rd best selling BEV in the US, Rivian really needs its SUV's and smaller offerings to do well. I think they deserve to do well too.

Not sure the CyberTruck is quite the golden boy that Tesla hopes - seems like they're already building up inventory stock
