I hope son no1 is OK!

What tyres did he have on the car?
What is he thinking of buying to replace the Zoe?
Thats Jim the ashp guy in the reflection. He had Xclimates on the Zoe. It is literally the difference in 15 minutes whether the gritter and plough have been through. This morning it hadn't plus snow drifting onto road. We've went for a low mileage Suzuki All grip hybrid. the dealer is putting on a brand new set of xclimates.
I'm a big fan of CrossClimates! Glad he had the correct tyres on.

CrossClimate is an all season tyre that is unreasonably good in snow for those who might not know. I used to swap from summer to winter tyres but the 6-monthly chore came around too quickly and full-winter tyres aren't that good in non-winter conditions. The CrossClimate tyre revolutionised the "all-season" market that'd previously been stocked with tyres that were useful in no conditions.

I hear that nowadays the competitors have upped their game and there are a few good choices...
I have the Agilis Crossclimate van tyres on my Transit - they are brilliant - great grip in all conditions and last forever - fronts were replaced after 66k miles, rears are still going at 80k!! At this rate the rears will need replacing due to reaching 10 years, rather than wearing out (currently 6 years)

chris_n wrote: Thu Nov 21, 2024 1:01 pm I've just gone the other way having taken Cross Climates off my TT and replaced them with a full winter tyre. Nothing wrong with CC just we have a fairly sensible law here that says winter tyres must have 4mm of tread to be considered as winter tyres. My CC's last week had 4.2mm so was going to have to replace them anyway. There is a possibility my wife may find herself having to drive with our 18 month old granddaughter while I am working over the winter so the best tyres I can get are fitted.
Given the climate in UK something along the lines of CC's should be standard.
Just to note having used both on a couple of cars the Crossclimate 2 is far superior to the original.
I tried Nokian WRD3 and Bridgestone Blizzak full-winter tyres and found that they worked very well indeed in snow, particularly an inch or more, but in ordinary driving conditions (eg wet or dry roads) they didn't perform particularly well.

I'd always derided All-season tyres as "jack of all trades master of none". When I bought my Golf GTE it had some brand-new Nexans on the front. And I struggled with traction. The FWD and electric torque just didn't go together. Anytime the road was damp or conditions were cold and I was trying to pull out of a T-junction there'd be a lot of noise and smoke but very-little forward progress. I'd not yet bought a 2nd set of wheels for winter tyres but it was clear I needed to fix summer as well as winter. The very impressive test results of CC2 convinced me to try them on my Golf GTE and I've never looked back.

I don't think I'd swap wheels by season again, the CC2 are really that good.

But then I live on a hill in North West England. If I lived in the mountains of Scotland maybe I'd still be swapping wheels...

He's OK, kicking himself about it but if any blame lay it would be on Aberdeenshire council roads dept for not running gritters through the night... Just one of those things. Cancelled the EV charger install for 4th Dec.

Have you checked that he will fit in that Ignis :D Once he gets it he'll realise how many of them are on the road, we always see one or two on a trip into Inverurie.

Aye, he'll be alright in it, seat fully back and cranked like a deckchair! It's funny, not much bothers him but he is well hacked at the loss of his first EV. We'll see how it goes with Iggy and keep a look out for a small 4wd EV..

Only one guy here today.but he did well, got the old boiler out and hung all but 3 of the radiators. They all look OK, this one in ensuite is most visually apparent triple.

Image

The rest blend in ok. Just realising that this is essentially a brand new system going in. A couple of K2's and some 10mm pipe in the upstairs section and that's about it. Everything else is new. 2 metre Peter and the two big vertical rads to go and the existing k3 from big lounge to go into kitchen and that is the last of the reused components.

It really is a huge investment in time and resources. Even the boxes of armaflex insulation seem to run to hundreds of noodles!

That's the gas isolated and tagged. So on the 21st Nov 2024 we officially left ff behind for use in our home! We've let Octopus know, so.hopefully one less S/C.
