Victron Config software passwords

#1

Post by wookey »

I finally got to the point of configuring my inverter, and find that the Victronconnect software hides a lot of the config options behind an 'installer password', and the VE Configure software sets a pasword for further changes once you have configured a grid type/location. So you can't change it again without that. To be fair to Victron this is a requirement of various countries (including ours - where the G99/100 regs require a mechanism to stop users changing safety-related things they probably don't understand). 'Ask your installer or your distributor' it says. But of course I am my installer, and and my distributor is shut because a) it's the weekend and b) it's Xmas.

I tried some net-searching but all the answers saying things like 'it's on page 47 of this doc' from 3 years ago, pointed at 404's so far.
Someone here probably knows the answer, so if you could PM/email/matrix me (contact details at http://wookware.org), that would be very helpful.

I don't want to configure things that I won't then be able to change again if I've screwed it up, precisely _because_ it's connected to the grid and needs to work correctly once enabled.

I expect it can be found online eventually, but asking here may be quicker.
cheers

Aha, apparently searching works much better back in Linux. Found it almost immediately using DDG (whilst I failed for over an hour in Windows):

Also documented in the 'how to get root access to your venusOS controller': https://www.victronenergy.com/live/ccgx:root_access

I had seen a cryptic hint which the above posts confirm.

Right, let's try again.
