And another great night at KH - after a slow start it seems to be picking itself up and producing some good numbers.

I’m off for a sausage sarnie to celebrate

I'm liking the diversity of having a share in both GF and KH. :xx:

Agreed, it's like a seesaw: one often up when the other is down. See 13 and 14 Jan:

Kirkhill looks to be parked up this morning with the blades at 60 degrees - maybe doing maintenance while the weather is favourable ?

on the whole site? I thought the idea of a wind farm (as opposed to a single turbine like GF) was that you could switch them off in turn, working your way round the site...

Not sure, app says average turbine blade 60 degrees and -8kW which I take as the whole site is off line. Maybe they are doing something with the interconnector and switch gear ? Either way with wind speed at 2mph we aren't losing out on generation.

There's no wind at GF either, so it's a Dunkelflaute day again. Gridwatch is showing 0% wind and even pumped hydro is on - usually they seem to save that for the evening peak. A bad (green energy) start to the year, and (on top of that) I wonder whether turbines will have to be shut down to protect them in the coming storm?

KH is back on the grid but already got the blades feathered a little so I am guessing theres some supply management being done across the grid, gas still producing around 40% of the grid demand but I expect that to start to drop away as the day progresses. Already gusting 40mph here, 80mph+ gusts indicated tomorrow but the transit seems to be quick with the works weather concentrated in to a 6 hour slot, then if the forecast is correct its around 5 days of 50mph gusts and strong winds so every chance of a really good finish to January for the turbines.

On the plus side the weather during the storm is said to be sunny so I will be generating - unless the panels get torn off the roof.

Exciting times - good luck to everybody as the storm builds today and passes over us tomorrow :xx:

yesterday and today I have noticed that pumped hydro has been delivering through the working day, and looking deeper on Gridwatch I found that pumped has had a "negative output" the last couple of nights, so it looks as though they have been keeping the gas turbines running to top up those reservoirs.
It may be normal, but I haven't noticed it before. Often pumped hydro has hardly delivered anything...
p.s. going back through previous months and last year there are negative 1 GW figures quite often, so I guess it has been playing its part in the background, just never seems to be delivering much when I happen to look!

Yes I noticed that about pumped hydro as well, it was outputting at 0.9GW earlier when I looked and now its dropping back to 0.6GW, wind in general is picking up at 33.5% and although its only one dat point it could be that Gas is starting to be reduced as theres been a 5 point drop on the last update, gas currently at 38.7%. Happily KH is increasing its generation and the blades are no longer feathered, but with all of that said we are still pulling around 5GW from the interconnectors.
