Starting out on my heat pump journey
Re: Starting out on my heat pump journey
Plenty cups of tea, biscuits and bacon rolls for the lads Ron. You'll get a better job out of it and have a nicer time. Is that the loft insulation finished, all good?

No, no yet, I will get it done, had other things to sort that are more pressing. It will get done.

Re: Starting out on my heat pump journey
Good luck!
Was due to get mine put in last Easter. Late in the day they told me they would have to reschedule as unexpectedly (!) the wives of their chief fitter and chief spark were expecting babies at that time. Never heard another peep.
,
Found someone else, went in in August, took four days, at least it was in time for the winter. Sparky and fitter came the previous week for a recce and to look at wiring/pipe routes, I think this was a big help as the indians didn't have to hang about on the Monday while the chiefs worked out what to do. (Sorry, I realise not PC but it is an old expression not intended as a reference to any particular country or culture.)
Nothing like a hard deadline to sharpen everyone's minds!

I'm old enough to remember the saying, I also think the world is going mad with political correctness, soon we won't be able to say anything, as it can all be taken the wrong way
Presumably there isn't any pressure to get the loft insulation done prior to installation (as long as it's done before next winter), more important to get the base installed and nearer to the date the kitchen cabinets removed so easier to get the pipework in, and also the fridge removed from the utility room, so it's easier for them to work, especially as the uniTower is going where the fridge is, and the fridge will go back where the boiler currently is.

Re: Starting out on my heat pump journey
You'll know your own priorities and workload. Might even see up upward tick in thermal performance in the run ip to Winter once you know your HP baseline and then add the insulation. Sounds like you have a few pre installation jobs on the go!.Ronski wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 10:18 am I'm old enough to remember the saying, I also think the world is going mad with political correctness, soon we won't be able to say anything, as it can all be taken the wrong way![]()

Re: Starting out on my heat pump journey
Base will be the priority, also got a week's holiday between now and installation, so that pretty much writes two weekends off, and I work full time.
Re: Starting out on my heat pump journey
Will you be there during the installation? There will be a thousand small questons, can we put this here? Can we run the wiring there? If not give a lot of thought to where everything is going to go (sounds like you are well on the way).
Fortunately I was able to be there (though they may not have appreciated it) and had stuck diagrams on the wall for them to follow, so pretty much everything went according to plan (tho' the plan got revised a bit). Best call was to get the primary pipes how I wanted them, above the recycling bins, through 2ft of stone wall, up and over a door frame, through the head of the next door frame. That is where they encountered the undiscovered steel lintel, took much longer than the stone to get through

Re: Starting out on my heat pump journey
Yes, I'll be there, got the week booked off work, luckily as it's Good Friday that's only four days holiday.
The routing is pretty straightforward, what complicates it, is it's already quite busy where the pipes need to run, the gas pipe will be going, but there is two 25mm SWA cables, hot & cold water pipes and the ring mains for the kitchen. Also need to be mindful not to block the air flow up the back of the oven.
We've got the engineer coming for a recce on 4 April, I'll make sure I'm there for that.
