Is today a record low for wind?

0.24GW this morning at 9.30. Especially when you compare that to the actual installed capacity!

Its amongst the lowest since say 2020.

I looked at the gridwatch templar numbers going back to 2020, this does ignore the live non metered stuff and I have ignored the zero's as there is always a bit of duff data.

The lowest on there today is 0.084 GW at 8:45 this morning.

There are only 2 days it was lower,
0.035 GW on 22/07/21
0.071 GW on 16/08/23

As you say considering the extra installed capacity its up there with the lowest.

Well this is fun.

I'm in the process of deleting my account on Twitter, and downloaded all of my Account Data from 12 years of activity on that platform. Looking back at my old Tweets I found one from 10th December 2014 about a then Wind Power Record.

Anyone care to guess what it was 10 years ago?

We had around 12GW of installed capacity back then so I reckon around 9GW.

Looks like we are only about 0.5GW away from a wind record?
8.7kWp PV [2.12kWp SSW + 4.61kWp ESE PV + 2.0kWp WNW PV]
Two BEV's.
Two small A2A heatpumps.
20kWh Battery storage.

Current official NESO record is 22.523 GW on 18 December 2024.

Wind generation forecast is showing enough wind resource for a record, and we might get one as we approach peak period but curtailment and/or gas requirements to maintain grid stability may scupper it. Tomorrow also looks good, but maybe too windy and low weekend demand will likely cause too much curtailment.

NOTE - We only need about 17.5 GW on the graph below to get a record as the Elexon data does not show all the wind generation.

This interactive map shows what's generating where, and also which ones are being curtailed, in real time.

Iamkate showed a peak of 21.98GW at 13:00hrs. But I appreciate that's a rough estimate.

Oh well, but not a bad day for wind, hell of a lot better than my PV did. :(
