A weekend one! I assumed it was too windy…

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
The day ahead price plummeted yesterday by near 30% to around 6p / kWh, are they seriously expecting bids near to that level.

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
I still think they are doing these sessions to “map” the market responses so they have a better idea of when to ask and how much to offer - but on a day where Kirk hill slightly curtailed and I assume many other wind farms, it does seem an unlikely event.

Let’s have free power hour instead, besides they are way more lucrative than DFS these days anyway…….

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Only GridBeyond bothered bidding, down to as low as 10.5p / kWh and were rejected.

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Interesting there's a session today as there's plenty of wind and heating demand has dropped with the rising temps - grid is pretty cheap at the moment, very little gas being burned?

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
I joined the DFS review webinar a few days back, items of note were,
- The DFS is no longer a winter contingency service but a "Merit Based Margin Tool" as part of the grid balancing services.
- If the NESO can purchase other capacity elsewhere cheaper (there are many tools in the box), they will.
- Environmental impact is not considered (not even allowed under their OFGEM licence) so if gas is cheaper, it wins.
- They sometimes get it wrong, and the situation declines further and ends up with them paying more to other balancing services later.
- Some bids have come in late and were refused, even if they would have been accepted at the cut off.
- Turn up sessions still being pondered but its a bit complicated so don't hold your breath.
- Geographical sessions may also be targeted in the future.
- There are more suppliers currently onboarding.

- They think they are doing really well.
