Good morning all.... Hope you are well!

Just a quick question regarding exporting with octopus.

Should have panels installed Friday (finally!) Is there anything I can do to set up export with octopus now or do I have to wait til it's all connected, etc?

Outgoing octopus the best export tariff to be on combined with my intelligent octopus go?

Thanks

You will need the MCS certificate and the DNO notification confirmation before Octopus will proceed to applying for an Export MPAN.

Paid export and Octopus Intelligent is what I am on, I don't see any other tariff combination comes close but it does depend on your circumstances. Some folk switch tariffs seasonally to take the advantage of higher peak export rates in summer.

I had to wait about 6 weeks for the MPAN to be authorised / issued. Until that happens your power leaks away to the grid (if you haven't got a battery or it's full) but you don't get paid for it! When you get the MPAN I think you get credit for the outgoing metered power straight away.

+1 for Intelligent Octopus and Outgoing Octopus. How many years have we been saying that this combination is too good to be true and cannot last?

I have a small solar array, small battery, and small inverter. I’m just about managing to have zero bills now the sun is shining right at the beginning of March, that is all: heating, hot water, cooking, charging 2x EVs, and all other energy in a 5-bed house with 2-adults and 3-kids. As the summer progresses I should be in clover. Those with more solar and more-powerful inverters get paid a lot more…
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
6x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (14.4kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Thanks guys....

I won't be generating much and it will all be used or go into batteries for the foreseeable future (only a small 2.58kw array on garage for now) until I can get the whole roof of the house covered.

Just thought it best to get the export side sorted out as soon as possible.

Cheers

Better to let the solar get exported at 15p and charge you batteries on 7p!

That depends if Richard has an EV or not. Without an EV, it would probably be better off on deemed export and a solar diverter if Richard has a hot water cylinder.

We have an EV, but don't have a hot water cylinder.

We probably use around 20/30kWh electricity a day and it's only a small array.

Plan is to fill the batteries (30kWh) at 7p during the night (23:30-05:30) as I am on the intelligent octopus go tariff, this should cover all our usage outside of those hours.

I suppose the solar generated tops up the batteries during the day or we just use it. Haven't really thought about it as it's only a small array and won't be generating much at the moment. Or as Stinsy said let all solar be exported if it's not needed? I suppose that can be setup with the inverter to always export solar, while using the batteries to power the house?

On that basis, I consider that the 15p export tariff would be best. It works well with me with 2.1kWp of PV and 10kWh of batteries with Octopus go.

Before EV and batteries, my import wads around 8-10 kWh per day average

Sometimes I find it hard to remember, that if I don’t get cheap slots on IOG, and I am not good at gaming them, the full rate is still the second cheapest rate available

That isn’t the best plan!

Lots of variations and tweaks, but you should export your battery at full whack into the grid. You can do this several times a day if you’re good at gaming additional cheapslots.

You don’t want to be powering usage from your battery where possible. Usage should come from cheap-rate grid power.
