I suppose that's no good for the "gamers" as you wouldn't get cheap rate for the whole house while charging anymore.

Suppose it's good though if you can your limit your import during the day (peak rate) and have several cars, doing lots of miles.

Without reading all the terms and conditions, I imagine that it would be limited to one vehicle like IOG and the clever Octopus would verify which car is being charged.

Probably best suited to those without batteries or other large night time loads and doing more than around 1,000 miles per month.
(£200 / 7p = 286kWh @ 3m per kWh = 858 miles to break even)

I think it allows 3 cars when I read about it last night.

Why do you have a fair use policy?
×
To ensure there’s plenty of electrons to go round, Intelligent Drive Pack has a fair usage policy. If you regularly charge 3 or more battery electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles or use more than 700 kWh of charging per month twice in a six month period, we reserve the right to take you off of Intelligent Drive Pack. To give you a sense of what 700 kWh means, this is equivalent to a bit more than 2,000 miles a month.

Can I charge any car at my home?
×
No, this is limited to your own cars only. If everyone starts charging their friends’ cars, then we wouldn’t be able to offer this add-on anymore, which would be a shame for all of us!

Charging will be for the car we connect to. So if you’ve connected to your car directly, then it will cover only this car. If you’ve connected to your charger, then you can connect multiple cars but keep in mind that we have a limit of 3 different vehicles per month.

Depends if it can connect to your car or charger. I think I would be lucky as it only connects to my ohme charger and not my EV. Only got one EV though.

So, is it basically £20 a month for almost unlimited EV charging? Seems to be a lot of caveats.

I think so Dan... But losing the option to power your home during the peak hours at off peak rate.

Oops... Also I gather you lose the 23:30 - 05:30 7p/kWh rate too. :cat-shock:

This is an interesting development. Octopus are not applying the EV rate to the whole house. Interestingly they’re also a lot more aware of the potential go abuse than they ever have been before.

People with charging point integration can charge any EV inclusive of the £20. However the fair use policy kicks in at 700kWh.

I cannot imagine it’ll be better than IOG for many people.
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
6x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (14.4kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger
