Specifically I did a post (in that thread) on decoupling the price of leccy from gas which is the issue of this thread,

There was supposed to be a decision on zonal pricing in the first quarter of this year but it did not happen as it might halt some of the planned renewable's north of the border.

We are still waiting on a decision from the government / OFGEM.

I've had a few articles/videos popping up.on my Newsfeed from Greg Jackson on zonal pricing. He's not giving up on it.

Great that our solar gives us all one further remove due to guilt be association of gas/electricity pricing. More panels lads!

Too many people creaming off profits and not enough persuasion to change the existing set up which everyone knows is useless…..

That's what it goes on to say... Maybe I should have said that it lists 5 or 6 ways to change the electricity market to prevent our self-inflicted pain. Worth reading in full.

I hadn’t read the article in full but will take a look.
Another bug bear of mine is public charging and the outrageous cost.
Admittedly our Tesla has free charging for 12 months and I know people are anti Musk at the moment but the Tesla supercharger network works pretty well imo. Even our single uses it fur his 500e and it’s generally 33p/kwh which I think is pretty reasonable.
Some of the off peak prices is below our peak home pricing. Obviously most on here don’t pay peak prices often

Surely every government should aim for the cheapest possible, secure form of energy.
I know politicians are complete clowns and there are many variables to a cheap form of energy but the lobbying from groups protecting their interests are getting ridiculous.

There has never been a prosperous society with high energy costs. It really does feel like our politicians are having their pants pulled down by a kleptocrat FF industry. "Ahh you want to lower carbon emissions? We're totally on that, just give us £20bn of taxpayer/billpayer cash and we'll capture some of the carbon". While this sort of thing happens in every country, we seem to be especially afflicted, hence us paying some of the highest energy prices in the world.

You can have a cheap one like the USA and the failures when stressed.
You can have the more expensive UK one which is one of the most reliable
Or the many shades of grey in between.

People want the cheapest everything until it fails and then watch how quikly they change sides.

Our system is based on being able to withstand one power station going off line with no notice and a max of 12hr/yr non supply.

Secure form of energy by definition means over capcacity. We have numerous generators being paid good money for doing nothing but on permanent stanby just in case.
