For a beginner anything with an internally geared hub-drive is fairly neglect tolerant and simple to operate, also the most ubiquitous.
They're low torque and not great at hills but they're fairly no-brainer to operate.

I'm trying not to buy this as my next project, mostly because where will I fit a set of paniers and 10kg of battery...

I should prolly go kick the tyres before making a decision though...
I’d be very interested in you doing a separate thread detailing the conversation. I go MTB with my 12yo. But I can nolonger keep up!

Not so sure about "techlish" Saladin, you might as well be talking swahili to me for what i understand of the details, but its very very clear you are a talented guy with your chosen subject and its a pleasure to read your posts none the less (while my brain scrambles then fails to understand). That cargo bike you was building was epic.
Same as with most posts on here, to a techy dimbo like me decent photos convey the messages easier sometimes and its good to see the results of folks efforts/experience 'in the flesh' as such. Keep it up fella.

It's a shame Mike had to go - He was rather old, he had great grandchildren, he was Jewish, and an ex professor, and also American, so his opinion was that he was always right, even when others were also right, he'd have to explain why he was righter. He probably knew the word 'mansplaining' but certainly didn't realise that he was doing that constantly on any subject he replied to.
Personally, I think he was banned maybe one or two posts early, but he was certainly heading in the right direction - is it a permanent ban? or a temporary timed thing?
If I was a mod here I'd have banned him eventually but probably just because he's an annoying knob.

Mike had been annoying and abrasive in a number of posts. And if he'd been such on a different topic, he'd probably have received another warning or two. However, he deliberately chose the one topic that is proscribed. I got the very distinct impression that he had no genuine interest in his original question on this thread. He'd located a rule and was getting a perverse thrill out of seeing how hard he could poke the bear and (I'm sure) was fully prepared to act the victim when inevitably called out. You cannot have that kind of sillieness.

If this were my sandpit the rules would be different. However it isn't my sandpit. It is Joe's.

It was interesting to have an American on here. However, one wonders why he wasn't on an American forum. Maybe he's burned those bridges already?
