Don't look up

Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

Don't look up

Did anyone watch the Netflix film "Don't look up" over Christmas?
It was a remarkably well observed bit of political satire which was so close to the bone on what's going on in the world at the moment that it felt more like a documentary than a comedy.

Anyone else?

Wifey and I watched it. Very good, but a bit painful to watch with no action being taken, and the experts being ignored/mocked.

I assume the 99.7% chance of an impact, being classed as 'well its not a certainty then', is a reference to the scientific papers on AGW, when 97% of papers confirming (I think 1990 to 2010(ish)) was updated to 99.7%.

I love a good bit of satire, but this film kinda brought it home how ridiculous it has been on this little blue rock for the last 50yrs or so.

A must see, I think?

Oh absolutely - it was a very thinly veiled attack on the anti-global-warming lobby. But also the whole "we've had enough of experts" vogue which has seen us succumb to the idiocies of things like Brexit, and the anti-mask anti-vax covid-denying brigade.

Interesting to note that the film pointed its guns so hard at The Media - and how does the media respond? By giving it really bad reviews!

Agree a must watch. As I said before, it's actually too close to the bone to be called funny. Although the 2 end credit sequences were quite amusing!

We watched it yesterday afternoon, didn't even know what it was about at first apart from Leonardo DiCaprio was in it.

Enjoyed it a lot, and certainly frighteningly illustrates the current state of the world. More of a film about politics, social media, modern social interaction, greed and all our human weaknesses all in one.

There was a chopper heliport scene about 2/3rds through. I'm sure the background music was the first 6 bars of Ultravox Hymn?

Loved the film. SWMBO too. Oh man, those talking heads!
