I guess Shell has lots of expertise in off-shore energy production from drilling for oil and gas, so might as well put that to better use farming wind instead?

All the oil companies are going to have to change. Even if their CEO'S don't want to they will be removed by investor activist power and RE will be fully embraced.

There is such talent and existing structure within these mobs that it's better to divert elsewhere that dismantle I think?

Exactly. The transition to "clean energy" can't just be a repeat of what happened when the coal mines and the steel mills were shut - ie. entire communities of people, skills and experience were just abandoned.

They're all there apart from Mobil Exxon. They're real bas**rds, worked for them as a contractor in Nigeria back in the day. Oh aye, Chevron's missing too.
