As we are a community and communicate , it might be a coincidence that recently people on a german wind turbine forum ask me about self sufficiency and i cannot provide any advice on a windturbine i could suggest ..... in former times it would have been future energy .....

Can we make a list of turbines that are viable for single house ideas ?

Are there those ?

Hi Billi,

unless you have a good site with clean wind and unrestricted views there are no viable wind turbines. With a good site you can't beat a Proven https://sd-windenergy.com/ or SD as they call themselves now but they're hardly 'viable' when compared to PV My first 2.5kW Proven is still churning out the power and has been since I installed it in 2005. However, despite spending very little on maintenance, unless you are 'off grid' it makes no sense at all. I have two at my new house a 3.2kW and a 6kW and they both perform well providing me with ample power in the winter months but that is only because I'm in a good windy spot. I would say the most 'viable' option is to buy Hugh Piggot's book https://scoraigwind.co.uk/windpower-workshop/ and build your own. Like you've been saying for years 'PV is king'

If you look at the website that sells it. It is shown mounted about 1.5 meters above ground. About 1.0 metre away from an extension behind a house. With a plastic table and chairs below it.
In the picture it does look very good.
I will have to take it down and mount it the same. Will give feed back on what it produces.

When I holidayed in Orkney a few years ago, the house we stayed in had a load of solar on the roof, and had one of those exact devices on the roof of their shed. The house was about 0.5miles from the shore, and between the house and shore were two very productive farmers field 3 blade turbines - the variable speed ones. They were turning pretty much the whole week we were there.

The little shed-roof device, in the same area, in the same wind speed, turned not one jot.

For most of the population our WT cooperative is the answer... Not perfect (grid charges etc) but it's the only way for people with "ordinary" houses.
Would the German psyche/brainset or the financial system allow it though?
