I think the obvious conclusion from this thread is that gas boilers are woefully inefficient in real world operation.

The problem with SH is the continued long term access to cheap overnight electricity. Which is by no means certain. However SH are a really great way to augment a HP that is powerful enough for all-but the coldest conditions or a WBS to provide heat if you're away of incapacitated.

3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Bugtownboy wrote: Thu Feb 03, 2022 10:04 am Joe, I’ve had a look around and the figures for kW per measure of logs isn’t consistent - probably because of the variability of species and MC.

Looks like I probably underestimated - Ash at <20% MC gives about 1800kWh per cube, Larch gives about 12-1300kWh.

With your thoughts on SH - don’t forget the TM of the fabric of the house - putting a bit more heat into it I’m sure evens the temps out for longer.
Yes indeed to the fabric of building rising and its effect on the temp swings. This is my first full Winter in Scotland for 30 years. Luckily its quite mild as its a learning curve!

I'll keep 1.1MWh per m3 of logs in my mind as we run such a range of logs through. Thanks for that btb, appreciated!

I maxxed out the front store this morning and it won't be touched until next Autumn 🙃. This one has around 5.5 m3 in it.

I personally think there is a real beauty to a woodstore, very pleasant on the nose and eye.

This leads us nicely back to WT1 & WT2. I personally will pursue a lesser gas lifestyle quite far into 'owwh its costing me now territory'. The WS, WT1 & SH combo is beating the pants off of the GCH in terms of home temperature fluctuations, cost and general wellbeing in how it makes me feel and the actual hands on physical fitness and satisfaction at taking care of business in my own way rather than being just one more drone for the energy companies to profit from.
:D
Aye and that's before WT1 is energised!

Well, Its the last day of the month and we have gas use figures for the Month.

Feb 18 4,256kWh
Feb 19 1,375kWh
Feb 20 1,450kWh
Feb 21 1,980kWh
Feb 22 165kWh. No need for a comma! :)

The true breadth of this is seen in the quarterly figure, Ok i'm only 2/3rds thru yet Q1 18 we used 12.8MWh of gas. Q1 22 we have used under 0.6MWh so far. 8-)

Similar sorts of figures for myself, note Feb 2020 looks good too, but was uneconomic as gas was too cheap so did not repeat in 2021. There were also technical issues with hot water which I have now sorted. And even if gas prices dropped again the rebate from ripple WT1 will be enough for me to ignore any economic issues in the future.

Feb 18 3,484 kWh
Feb 19 1,900 kWh
Feb 20 221 kWh
Feb 21 1,733 kWh
Feb 22 22 kWh
18.7kW PV > 109MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 26MWh generated

40kWh Thermal storage

Thanks Iain, we were so focussed on the replacement of the smart meters that we didn't fully realise the game changer that had arrived. TOU and storage heaters/HWT is a potent combination! You said your meter came back online post powercut. All still OK j hope? Tomorrow I'll check the electricity figure for month and see the raw combined kW comparison. :D

The WT allows us to take the moral highground without a financial hit. A great way to look at bulletproofing the personal FF burn. :) I wish we had a team chart to compare our combined historic to present day FF reduction.

Getting my daily import readings but nothing in the export side, would have thought if sending import info it would also be sending the export info?
