Foul wind blowing...
Foul wind blowing...
As we move from storm D - E the winds which should be sucking the heat out of everything simply hasn't, the air current seems way too warm, sweating in basic fleece gilet & shirt last night when out walking in the undecided drizzle.
New normal zero heating in front room as it was staying over 16c whilst outside gales blew.
More of the same today, unusually high tide (fen port of Wisbech) along the tidal river.
I "think" I've only seen 2 frosty mornings this winter, worrying.

Re: Foul wind blowing...
Indeed, it has been a very mild winter.
This morning was only the 22nd morning with lying snow of the winter (I didn't keep records last year but by this stage we would have easily had three times as much), and the ground had hardly ever been frozen.
We also haven't had any serious winter storms unlike the east coast and (soon to be) south.
On a positive note, the logs in my log shed are lasting longer than I had budgeted for!

Like the thread name Mr Gus, sort of reminds me of ......................................
Our turn for a hammering in the south with storm Eunice tomorrow.
Red alert in some places, and shipping forecast up to violent storm force 11.

Nowty,
I was just thinking the same about the title I do miss that particular thread and author, looking on Ventusky the worst of the storm seems to be skirting the south coast, up here we may see 50 gusting 65mph but as i say we get those regularly so the damage and disruption is minimal usually.
The company I work with at the minute have sent out a sever weather warning for the south coast and arranged for all site works to be abandoned tomorrow and Saturday and generally for everyone to stay under cover - sensible precautions.
We haven't had any standing snow at our elevation at all this year so far, previous two years we had some by now but it is exceptionally mild and like others the WBS isn't eating through fuel at the usual rate of past years.

Re: Foul wind blowing...
I remember it well I used to frequent the stations and as a weekly treat I would go to the chippy in the village and have some fabulous fish n chips. There was always a very large bulldozer grading and banking up the shingle.
Lovely part of the country.

Re: Foul wind blowing...
Even some inshore water forecasts are now forecasting violent storm force 11 along the south coast.
Quite a lot of scary stuff on the NetWeather forums suggesting the met office red alert should be more widespread and by some of the knowledgeable posters, not just the usual doomsters.

Re: Foul wind blowing...
A few years ago my (professional tall-ship sailor with a Master's ticket) son was going to take me for a weekend on a "yacht" he had access to for my 60th birthday... we saw force 11 forecast on the inshore forecast and decided to postpone it! He said it had never seen that before. Now we have another one, and even inland we have this:

75mph inland? That will be catastrophic if it happens.
