Foul wind blowing...
Re: Foul wind blowing...
46mph gusting 87mph for us from 11 am till 1pm according to ventusky weather maps, we are just going through a series of hard thunder storms and blustery winds at present as shown on the BBC weather maps twenty minutes ago.
Stay safe all.

We are now in the red alert zone but at the moment its no worse than a normal windy day.
SWMBO confirmed to me she got to work OK and said they roads are empty.

Re: Foul wind blowing...
Think we’re a bit ahead of you Nowty (Somerset). It is extremely windy - NSS - things blowing about a lot. Think it starts to calm down here as it picks up round Southampton/SE.
Check your temp ground mounts now.
Re: Foul wind blowing...
Oh we would have loved to have some of that snow BTB and JB - want to swap some gusty winds for some snow?
The little ones would have had some fun with the sledge !
Wind has been absent for around 40 minutes after the thunder storms stopped and as I type the wind has markedly freshening so maybe this is the start of the main event for us ? I see that the weather sites are really struggling to keep pace with the changing conditions and I am having to amalgamate several sites to get a correlation to whats happening outside the front door.
Rather than facing a straight Westerly we now have it arriving from the WNW direction which I prefer as it puts all the main panels at a slight angle to wind and the mobile array is in the lee of the south wall of the cottage, around 40mph presently judging by the bend on the spruce trees over the way

SWMBO & I are in full hunker down mode. Been out to supermarket and now back home. Gonna split some logs in garage, Winter Wonderland! Gas continues to be off.

Re: Foul wind blowing...
Currently 43 mph gusts, which TBH is nothing compared to a constant wind, so no biggie, we aren't being slammed around as much as usual.
Started off gently last night & by 4.30 it woke me for the rest of the night.

Re: Foul wind blowing...
Snap ! We’re currently rebuilding a poorly constructed (1930) two storey bay, hence the front of the house has been removed. To be replaced with what will effectively be a SIPS construction with as much insulation as we can squeeze in - better than the zero insulation in the original.
Plastic sheeting hanging in there.
Currently burning off cuts of wood from the original construction - 100 year old floor joists burn lovely. Although soft wood, it is so much denser than the modern construction timber. Speed of growth I presume.
Anyway nice and toasty listening to the tempest surrounding us.
