Morning,
Y&H grid tie 700W inverter - connecting to the array with banana plugs, I suspect in the last windy but sunny day the positive terminal loosened and so today its running warm and the plastic nut has deformed so it cant be tightened. Plug pulled and isolated in electricians tape.
No big issue as they are easily purchased and replaced from the likes of RS components etc etc but the question is if I am opening up the inverter to replace this item should /could I replace both connectors with something better ? or seeing as this is now a fixed item and the plugs are not to be removed regularly should I stick with the like for like replacement ? or should I find a m4 nut and then tighten and heat shrink a cover over it ??

Banana plug - socket nut melting
Re: Banana plug - socket nut melting
I would personally go with something more secure as a bit of looseness leads to heating which only gets worse over time.
Maybe something from this line of connectors https://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/connecto ... onnectors/

Thanks Fintray,
Yes I agree the loose fitting was the problem, I am also contemplating soldering them similar to one of the other forum members solution with their solar panel connections (Marshman?) Its only two connections in this instance and would be a fix and forget option.
