Second system extension extension.
Re: Second system extension extension.
Also currently doing a second wash cycle using 2kW Inverter fed directly from the home battery stack. It's working fine. This along with the EV gives us a combined 5.6kW capability when the grid is down. The car can run the HWT and the rest can be covered by the 2kW unit. I am also a fan of those two supplies being split so there is no single failure point. The second PV system is self powered (by the sun) and requires no grid connection to energise. It feeds directly into the battery stack. This means we can be truly self sufficient and mobile if the grid falls over. I don't have the words for how that makes me feel.
BTW, a wash cycle costs 5 miles of range.

Re: Second system extension extension.
Bummer. But without the panels more carbon-emitting electricity production might have made the storm worse, and caused more damage and harm than this one.
My friend on the S Devon coast just said "All OK thanks, including the panels are still on the roof (their first big test!)"
You have to take a "public health" view: What is the net (overall) gain, and at what cost to (a few) individuals? It sounds horribly like the decisions generals must take when planning attacks...

I found the process of knowing home stack percentage to be a bit clunky. Either had to go on the green lights on batteries or use Goodwe app.

Re: Second system extension extension.
I am giving some thought (only a little) to taking the 4th String and mounting it on a movable frame on the deck. Thinking brakeable wheels and a light wooden frame or maybe engineered ply to keep the strength but lose some weight. We are 10.30 hrs before full sun and begin to lose it due to house shading at about 15.30 hrs..

Re: Second system extension extension.
I still got your pic with my editing from the old place.
I remember saying, just a thought.
EDIT - Just looked back on the saved thread and my exact words were,
"Of course, you don't have to, its only a suggestion."

Re: Second system extension extension.
Its funny Nowty, after all the mods and running to improve, improve its been quite nice to slow down and enjoy the combined arrays and see them kick in during the shoulder months to a useable level. I did a hot disconnect of the 4th string today once we had house shading on the panels and sure enough the wattage at the Victron dropped which nicely confirmed yourself & Stinsy back on page 1 & 2, parallel independent strings.Joeboy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 4:00 pm I am giving some thought (only a little) to taking the 4th String and mounting it on a movable frame on the deck. Took the time yesterday to snowfoam both arrays and today we went over 5kW combined output for the first time this year. Up to yesterday, the record had been 4.4kW. The snowfoam I used is the same as I use on the I5, Bilt Hamber Touchless. Real easy, spray on from a distance and hose off with the washdown gun, nice and gentle. The panels were grubby but not dirty, The day wasn't a PB for total output as we had a good bit of cloud cover through the day. That 5kW though at 12.30 when the sun broke through? Great to see! I'll see if I have any 4mm cable left over and enough to maybe encourage me to trial a painters easel cheapo moveable stand and go from there. Got a few MC4 spares knocking about. SWMBO not so sure on this one as it might kill the deck for bronzing and that is a deep no-no.

Exactly what I have and brilliant other than you have to make sure it’s well anchored in windy weather otherwise you may find it at the other end of the garden - if you only need to move along a single axis you could try two channels one on the deck the other along the top of the bar to mount trolleys to slide the panels in and out across the deck ?
