Abseiling on wind turbine blades

Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

Unusual name...
reminds me of a drag act we saw advertised, maybe on Majorca: Betty Swallox. Ho ho.

Ahh good old Fred Dibnah, I remember the TV series about him and once I saw him in real life when I was outside Bolton Metropolitan College back in the 80's. He was driving past in a truck and was stopped at the lights. I remember he had his flat cap on, his arm hanging out of the cab smoking a fag with a completely blackened face. A real grafter and no health and safety.

Go to 13:00 to hear him talking about drinking a few pints before climbing up.

except that it is so obviously "staged" (i.e. photoshopped or whatever) that it's so far from reality as to be completely unbelieveble. The slightest breath of air would have had her off...
sorry

I understand she’s a professional rock climber or something, but even so, standing up there all serene with the word boards

I’d be looking for something to hang on to - if I got up there in the first place. As others have said, it looks horrendous , but if there’s a safe process with appropriately planned actions, risks should be mitigated.

Still wouldn’t do it though

AE We thought that the first time we saw the add and googled it straight away to discover it was breathtakingly real - as JB says the lady has extreme mettle as that height is dizzying to say the least.

I used be a crane driver for a time in the steel industry and we walked to our magnet cranes along a crane girder beam some 1.2 m wide but the crane rail sat over the first 200mm of the girder and there was no edge protection on that side just a swan dive 26 meters to the scrap bay below this was all made more precarious as the cranes (five of them) were constantly running up and down the line and they used up another 200mm plus of the space (less space at the vertical columns where it was possible to get smeared across the column by a passing crane), then we had to time our access to step on the access steps to our specific crane to take our mate off on the fly - literally him climbing out the seat while long travelling and me climbing in.

That was in the mid to late eighties and we never paid it a seconds thought but these days that sort of height makes my stomach roll

I moved from the cranes to the electric arc furnaces and they were dangerous on a whole different scale :o

Even though shes tethered to a fixed support post she had to get of a helicopter and step in to position - I would have frozen solid gripping on to the helicopter screaming

OK, so that one was genuine. I still bet that the majority of similar advertising videos are staged.
