However coping with one car for a few weeks turned into several months and there is no sign of the iD4 on the horizon. Plus paying inflated prices for diesel and having solar to-spare meant that I needed something plug-in to use in the mean-time. I'd have preferred a BEV but Leaf/Zoe don't float my boat and eGolfs are like hen's teeth, so here it is. Sporty little thing. Went for a 16-plate for the zero tax...
Tidy car, always liked Golfs.

Asked for an update from the supplying dealership, this is the response:

Image

Not very helpful I hoe you'll agree...
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

Almost like Joeboys response to the screed company

Very poor level of customer service. Doesn’t take much effort to be more polite with a degree of honesty about expected delivery date, even if they’ve no idea.

To be honest, if they treat you like this now, what’s aftersales going to be like.

I’d take my business elsewhere.

Yes I’d have to agree they have yanked your chain enough over this and it’s time to vote with your feet

I've had a bit of a moan to the salesman. However he can just pass on to me what he has been told. He works for the dealership, they speak to VW UK (the importer) who talk to VW (the manufacturer). Therefore there is perilously little I can do.

If you are saving that much money comparing to raising a new order, it's probably worth hanging on, no matter how frustrating it is

I'm hanging on. Used versions with a few thousand miles on the clock are advertised on Autotrader for £20k more than I'm paying. Which seems like an insane proposition.

Just to update you all: the iD4 is scheduled to be built Week 46. Which is roughly a year after it was originally supposed to be built. There have been a number of build weeks promised and missed so I’m trying not to get my hopes up but VW are insisting I’ll have it before Xmas.

They said that about last Xmas!
