If there is a foul wind a blowin' then drop by for a chat - about coconuts of anything else off topic.

I was the 14th person to vote at our polling station in the early afternoon. They were hoping to make it to 20 by close of play!
Did you have to queue for long? :D
To get out yes, as I think they were that bored we ended up chatting!! :D

It's the same people running the polling station every election and has been for years so you do get to know them.

It's quite interesting, this time we saw their new equipment. (A plastic mirror and a cardboard screen).

We did our duty and voted, always do.

SWMBO is from Brazil where there was military rule before 1984 and you had no right to vote. Since democracy, she has always needed iD to vote and if you don't vote, you cant claim benefit, or you cant apply for government jobs, etc. She said "about time", today when we needed to take iD.

Funny thing is she is used to electronic voting and cannot believe we still use a pencil. This thread then made me ask her about spoiling votes with an electronic system. It turns out that you can spoil your vote with their electronic system by timing out without making a selection and then your not disadvantaged as your still counted as turning up to vote. Also on voting day, everything non essential closes like covid times so you have little excuse not to vote.

How do they record your disgust at the twonks if you can only let it time out? (it's nice scrawling emotively on a voting slip, or physically ripping ot up ..very cathartic)

Their system still does add up the "timed out" spoiled votes, but yes you cannot type an expletive. ;)
