Nah, came to an agreement years ago - don’t follow the crowd, spend it on what we want.

Roll on tomorrow 👍

Us too. If I suddenly produced a card (or if one arrived by post) somebody would ask "What have you done? Why are you wasting money on this commercial crap?"
I was appalled to hear someone on R4 this morning say "Happy Valentine's day!" Good that it was brushed aside, just another bit of hype to separate the gullible from their money. It should be kept within courting couples and (I guess) people with illicit liaisons. It will be the - similarly invented - Father's day soon. Grrr!
I have just realised that we have passed our 49th, 50 to come between Christmas and new year - except that we usually only realise the date after it has passed!

SWMBO did get me a card today,

I think the message was very apt because I refused to have breakfast with her this morning at 9:00am because I was busy online buying something which had nothing to do with valentines day.

One card reads “Happy unimaginative consumerist entirely arbitrary manipulative shallow interpretation of romance day”, “Meh” – emblazoned on a pink heart – is the message on another, while an animal charity offers the opportunity to have your ex’s name printed on the bottom of a litter tray.

An anti-Valentine’s Day movement is sweeping across the country, and suddenly there are all sorts of ways to mark 14 February that don’t involve hearts or flowers.

“Valentine’s Day is not something that everyone likes to celebrate – it’s very commercialised, everything is about love, love, love,” said Floribeth Pena de Amador, founder of the Happy Book Place, an online gift shop.
