Could someone check this please?

#1

Post by SafetyThird »

Could someone knowledgable please take a quick look at my Western Power fast track application please and let me know if I need to add anything.

Main queries:
I'm not sure what to put in the 'technology type' for each of the inverters
Should the AC inverter be in the additional generating units section or the proposed energy storage units
Do I have to list the batteries in the energy storage units section?

In the questions at the start, that you have to answer 'yes' to, the final one says 'will both generation and storage be prevented from operating in island mode when the grid power is out'. Does that mean that if I'm going to use the UPS option of the Luxpower inverter that I can't use the fast track application?

Thanks.

Also, is this diagram suitable as the single line diagram of export limitation scheme?

Has anyone done a fast track application recently and might be able to comment. I'd like to get this off to the DNO as soon as possible.

I have not ever looked at submitting a Fast Track application so I can not help on that aspect.

However, "In the questions at the start, that you have to answer 'yes' to, the final one says 'will both generation and storage be prevented from operating in island mode when the grid power is out'. Does that mean that if I'm going to use the UPS option of the Luxpower inverter that I can't use the fast track application?", I believe you are misunderstanding the question. If my understanding is correct the DNO is worried about you creating an island that is connected (and supplies power) to the local grid even if that has been switched off by the DNO. The concern is that if people do that sooner or later one of the engineers working on the local grid will get electrocuted as there is a rogue supply of power into the local grid.

If you are simply plugging devices into the inverter that is powering only those devices and not the local grid - my understanding is that does not create an island that they are concerned about. You should check this is correct and not just take my view though as I am not an electrician.

Hello,

I recently applied successfully for an ESS with WPD.

Countrypaul is correct, the answer to the islanding question is yes. IMHO the question is very badly worded since it refers to operation with "their" island not "your" island.

Am away this w/e but I will be able to look at your application in more detail on Monday if you can wait until then.

Thank you both very much. Yes, the question is poorly worded and I'm glad I have the understanding correct now.

@sharpener, yes, hoping to get this in the post early next week so if you're able to take a look on Monday that would be very kind.

I now have the installer sorted, the electrician who has done all the rewiring on our renovation will be doing the connections and is looking forward to seeing my set up as he's thinking of something similar so that's now taken care of..

Hello,

Just wondered if you'd sent your form off yet? I'm going through the same right now, and have downloaded the G99 fast track form from here, which appears slightly different to yours? - https://www.westernpower.co.uk/connecti ... -connected

On that form I've downloaded, there are a couple of tables at the back which I think you can use to define the technology type section you were asking about.

I'm planning on using a similar diagram from the manual for the line diagram for export limitation they ask for. The next section though where they ask:-

Explanation / description of export limitation scheme operation including a description of the fail-safe functionality eg the response of the scheme following failure of a:
• Power monitoring unit
• Control unit
• Power Generating Module interface unit
• Demand control unit
• Communication equipment
Note, fail-safe tests are not required at installations where all Generating Units are EREC G83 or EREC G98 Type Tested, aggregated capacity is not more than 32 A per phase and export capacity is limited to 16 A per phase.

I'm not really sure what they want here? I have G98 and G100 cert for the inverter I want to use, so is that sufficient, or do WPD want actual sentences and descriptions of how the inverter will be fail safe? I saw you added a note saying the 3600ACS is G100 zero export cert, is that sufficient as far as you know? sharpener, if you could shed any light that would be great ;)

Hi, I've not sent off the forms yet, I was hoping that @sharpener might be able to look over it, or someone else might be able to check it. I downloaded my form here https://www.westernpower.co.uk/download ... iteme/2786 which seems to be the application for just battery storage if you already have PV installed.

I'm hoping that if the inverter is G100 certified with both ours are, then that should be sufficient explanation of how the limitation is done. I'll probably send mine off tomorrow and see if they query it. Or I might phone western power and see if someone knowledgable can go through it with me.

Hmm, do you know how you get to that download link you've posted on the WPD site? That form you linked to seems to be a WPD form, whereas the form I linked to on their site is a generic ENA one? Don't know which one to use, although they're pretty much identical in their content, both G99 fast track for just storage.

I might just ping off an email to them to ask about the fail info they want and see if a G100 cert is enough. I asked the same to my proposed installer/electrician, but theyre manic atm getting the site ready for the Royal Cornwall show as they deal with that, so a response could take a while.
