40 degrees next weekend, mid July ?
The weather forums are coming alive with scary chatter about a possible plume of heat next weekend which may break the UK's hottest ever temperature currently 38.7 degrees in July 2019 and may even break 40 degrees.

What we need for that is air conditioning, know where we could get some? All kidding aside, that's a hazardous temperature to be treated with respect & care.nowty wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 5:18 pm The weather forums are coming alive with scary chatter about a possible plume of heat next weekend which may break the UK's hottest ever temperature currently 38.7 degrees in July 2019 and may even break 40 degrees.

It is the humidity that makes heat dangerous to human health. At 100% humidity humans cannot survive more than 35℃ without relief.Joeboy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 5:36 pmWhat we need for that is air conditioning, know where we could get some? I think I might be there on convincing SWMBO that we need an AC/HP similar to Nowty’s,
12x 340W JA Solar panels (4.08kWp)
3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger
(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

or strategic curtain-closing and window opening! Outside shade temp here 24 at lunch-time (thermometer in shaded flower border), maybe 28 at teatime. House quite cool at the moment (but curtains now closed on the sunny side) windows open all round. We shall have to keep on top of it though if we are not to fry as the building structure warms up... I will check over the tent for cooler nights!Joeboy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 5:36 pmWhat we need for that is air conditioning, know where we could get some? What was noticeable was the wall of heat on going out of the S-facing back door. Radiation from E and S-facing walls making it feel like a furnace! I think "reverberatory" was a name applied to some sorts of furnaces. Maybe the charge was melted by heat radiated from the ceiling which was being heated by a gas or oil jet?

Well , will see those 40 degrees too , soon , in Germany . No aircon will help me while working outdoors , guess i do night-shifts with LEDs
Will be interesting to see how France reduced and old Nuclear power fleet and their cooling , overwarming rivers will behave .
Many days now PV production in Germany during the day (sure for a few hours only a day) is more or similar to France nuclear production

Wind is only 0.66GW and Solar is down to 1GW in the setting sun, nukes are lower than normal.marshman wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 8:17 pm As A says, strategic manipulation of curtains and windows is all that is really required - if possible fit some temporary external shade. We should all be exporting as much as possible to help the grid in these conditions, not worrying about trying to consume every kWh generated by heating swimming pools, hot tubs and running air con lest an errant unit escape to the grid without collecting some sort of payment. Then perhaps there would be no need for nearly 1GW of coal and 250MW of OCGT to be running right now. (20:14 = 10/7/22). - discuss
France is sucking all it can from us too.
I've done my bit today and aircon is now off.

Thanks , think thats a good thought to export as much as possible , and a cold shower with the the immersion off, will be a pleasure toomarshman wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 8:17 pm As A says, strategic manipulation of curtains and windows is all that is really required - if possible fit some temporary external shade. Would be worth while a campaign to push renewables --------- not for having a cold shower------ but to balance the unreliable Intermitend grid ! of gas coal , nuclear and oil
Let the sun shine , let the sun shine .... this is the age of ?

A water sprayer is my go to tool when the Mercury climbs this high, any exposed skin or clothing will loose a lot of heat with even the slightest draught, the humidity is rarely high enough to stop the evaporation entirely, and of course drink a lot.
