London's desalination plant not "specced" properly by the areas water "experts" (Thames water)

Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

Why do none of the said water experts work for Thames Water, you would think if they were going to spend £250M on a project they would find out all the details of the water source they were to use!

Fintray, the opportunity was like a big bullseye painted onto a male bovine, ..all in good fun, it's one of those slips that I wish I could say is occasional, but it is far from it!

I know water is recycled, but surely that would be like sucking excrement through a (now paper) straw.

It's looking worse by the hour.

It always worries me when a paper uses a comment such as "Experts said Thames Water had failed to take into account the varying salt water levels in the Thames estuary." without actally attributing the comment to any particular "expert(s)". The Guardian is better than many, but the whole justification for the article seems to rely on that one comment very like some tabloids.

I wonder how well mixed the water in the tidal Thames is?
Could they have failed to take into account the fact that in a lot of estuaries the fresh river water flows out over the top of the denser salt water with relatively little mixing, so it could be that at some point (like their water inlet) well below the low water mark it turned out to be in permanently salt water?
If that was the case you would think they could connect a flexible inlet pipe to a barge floating in the fresher above it.

I'm guessing this is the only big de-sal scheme in the uk?

Who is paying for it Londoners or everyone? (I tend to ask this a lot, I agree 😉 )

https://www.water-technology.net/projec ... alination/

Runs on London biodiesel from city food vendors waste production.
Ken Livingstone argued against it, Boris pushed it forward when he became mayor of wiff-waffville (garden bridges anyone)!?

Was deemed to be 2x more expensive to produce water (but hey, emergency needs) & only run for 40% !? of its planned life (that seems a lot of time in use)
