The Ami & the twizy are not quite Kei cars, I think the 451 electric is.
Damn you got me looking for a smart electric now.

Got to say as a family man I am watching the EV9 quite a bit as the potential second BEV with 7 seats and boot space, wont be serious though until the RAV has expired, probably 5 years away yet so they have time to get the knots out of the beast but I like it and it looks reminiscent of the Discovery so the wife is very keen.

by integrating most of the car's functions into a single touchscreen, and by having most functions controlled by software, it simplifies the parts supply chain and complexity of build, therefore making the car cheaper to make and therefore possible at a lower pricetag?

marshman wrote: Thu Mar 16, 2023 5:29 pm But that is what I want - cheap, no frills and compact, No silly infotainment screens, 20" alloys, etc, etc, and no £30 to £40k price tag.

Problem with software though is a companies desire to keep maintaining it.

That was a problem with the smart fortwo series, it was simple (compared to other vehicles now) but updates were few & problems were many (are many) ,,ditto buying an android piece of chinese kit stereo (all singing) that has you over a barrel of a software developer & is flawed from the word go.

SO it already happened with a mainstream brand in simple form, & we know smart watches & the likes the answer is "buy a more recent model" ..suunto, my favourite mountain watch brand went this way & "problem"
I like the simplicity of one screen, it works, (the tm3) ..& have to question more than one, ..love the honda, but crazy, they are also prone elements that can lock you / restrict you from accessing many aspects of the car if they go down (nissan leaf is £££££ which is why i've spent a year looking for just the lcd display, ..still have to get out & try the recalibration in case that helps) ..but there you go, opportunity to save time & money constructing, flipside, opportunity not to hold so much spares stock & fleece consumers based on hoe integral the screen then becomes.

Fair point about the Honda-e with its multiple screen fishtank display! That's definitely form over function. Likewise in the Porsche Taycan which seems to have about 10 screens.

If we "guesstimate" that each large screen is 30 watt hours that ego of design becomes a drain on mileage potential.

I love the mirror cams & understand the reasoning for that, but someone should really have given the designers hell for letting the others pass into production,

I have no idea if they are all touch screen or not, which could add another layer to potential replacement expense presumably due to "feed a fish" aquarium they likely are ..anyone able to tell us what else the other screens operate that may change my perception?

How are they compared to the honda?

It's a big old element of wind drag joe, so for pushing the miles up it is a good thing, more street space etc.

I am dropping off the I5 for warranty work this morning. If it's there I'll grab a photo or 3.

The camirrors on the I5. They are in parked position. Tres 'Shrek' when deployed?

Just seems to be an awful lot of resources to replace silvered glass....
