I quickly scanned an article yesterday on Scottish WT's being curtailed and the vast sums being paid to the power firms for this curtailment, insanity.AE-NMidlands wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 7:51 am It's a bit (a lot) quiet at the moment... While the weather this month is good for getting the vegetable garden set and for beekeeping, my tally of the predicted GF output is way down on any previous month.
Clearly the combo of PV and wind is a winner; even a wave energy machine wouldn't be doing much just now, so tidal flow generation needs to be part of our generation mix. I'm still doubtful whether tidal barrages are justifiable on biodiversity grounds when we (in the UK) have done virtually nothing about demand reduction yet.

Interconnects and massive low cost storage solution would seem to be first on the list and tidal installations for their always (almost) on aspect would be great although expensive and not without maintenance issues. Its a bit of a bugger that Denmark, Norway & Holland are such large RE producers themselves or we could run interconnects straight from Scotland to Europe? The financial return might be poor or generational in timeline but that's not the point surely? Get the power off the turbines to where it can be used.
