Balcony solar PV
Re: Balcony solar PV
Doing a geographical to Italy, managed to get registered with Hoymiles. Another wrinkle though. Registration is via dtu not as I am a WiFi unit. I should have brought the physical unit with me... that way lies madness. I think they've planned for people like me!
An incredible amount of PV on the run from Pisa to Florence. All the way from single panels, to groud mounts, to homes paneled edge to edge, curved roofs (stunning), factories all the way up to multi thousand panel commercial farms.
Ponte Vecchio remains firmly unsolared though.

Maybe you can use a free trial of a VPN to relocate yourself to somewhere in Europe when you get back to UK.Joeboy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 5:23 pm Doing a geographical to Italy, managed to get registered with Hoymiles. That's my fallback plan. Re: Balcony solar PV
I know the feeling well..going into rooms and wondering why I'm there is the big one right now, I'm technically thinking of the next plan or job or method to test or improve something. The wife even likes the solar stuff now as it stops me being new motorbikes every 5 mins and mostly stay at home, albeit there is a tad more swearing when the screw driver slips !!Joeboy wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 1:06 pmI took a sabbatical for 6 months in 2018 (49). Great work, ashamed to say my extra solar panels 9x250watt are still sitting under a tarpaulin, can’t seem to
A- get all the little jobs done
B- tie the joiner down to a date.
C- get motivated to do more about A&B “

What you have to factor in when your retired + Older.
You stand there looking at things you have DIY.
You know by looking at the project that you did it.
You stand there Pondering / Wondering / Trying to work out. What it is. What is it for
I do have an awful habit of placing stuff down just a moment ago. Then burn 10 minutes hunting for it! That must be where the FIVE YEARS have went, seems like 20 minutes!
Glad you seem to have got it all working.. I'll have a looksee at mine this week when my cables arrive.

Re: Balcony solar PV
Heard back from both Hoymiles NL & Offgridtec DL. Nice mails that read strangely as if it should all be easy to set up, get back to us if not.
I'm not sure they are grasping the idea that the software appears to be region locked?
I'll get into it once home. Certainly they both responded quickly and well.
On the off-chance that it ends up a snarl of poor comms and no way forward until uk opens up officially to these units I'd appreciate if any on you guys have fitted small form AC kWh counters and if so which ones? TIA for any input

Re: Balcony solar PV
Joe, if you're just after a local only meter with kWh count, plus current and power readouts then you'd be fine with a simple Eastron meter.
The SDM120 series is 1 module wide, the direct connection is good for 45A.
I've used Eastron meters for several projects, including the Modbus variants, all have been reliable and easy to use.
Simple enough to pick one up on Amazon, plenty of other stockists if you prefer.

Re: Balcony solar PV
Joe, if you're still in Florence and feel like a very, very good Florentine steak, I recommend Borderline. It's about a 20 minute walk westward from Ponte Vecchio along the Arno.
Still remains the best steak I've ever had, so I'm jealous you're over there right now!
