ASHP & triple glazing
Re: ASHP & triple glazing
Squirty glue in a can, full perimeter bead around every board and things like socket outlets.
Re: ASHP & triple glazing
Really? Cool! Any specific squirty glue? Example much appreciated.

Morning JB,
I’ve used this stuff before; wear gloves and don’t get it anywhere you don’t want stuff stuck to it tho

Smashing! The wall is 5 sheets wide. Would 2 cans be enough for 5 sheets? I'll screw with washers to fix the pir board to the existing wall then glue the pb to the pir board?Moxi wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 10:03 am Morning JB,

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
Allow just under 1 can per sheet
By the time you do the perimeter that’s about 6 linear metres that’s nearly half the can done, and you still need other fixing’ layers’
Much less faff than mixing up drywall adhesive and all the extra trapped moisture that goes with this traditional install

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
Are you putting a vapour barrier in behind the pb? (but your pb won't be stuck/fixed to the insulation then!) If so aluminium foil tape is the thing to use to seal the barrier sheet edges. I can't remember whether mine came from Screwfix or Toolstation, but it is brilliant stuff, quite strong but a very powerful adhesive. It coils up if you pull the backing off (down to static electricity I think) and sticks to itself so it's unusable. I was told (maybe here) to take a little bit of the backing off then remove the rest progressively as you put the tape in place.

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
I'll be interested to see how this wall goes, as I may have one that needs doing.
Great picture yesterday morning by the way.

I planned to screw the pir board (foiled both sides to the existing battens under the original plasterboard which I didn't intend to remove. I'd then glue fix the standard psperbacked 9.5mm pb to the foil of the pir board.
I might even do a mix as I don't want to.blow the £75 saved getting it in two batches on glues x 2 layers. If that makes sense?
Thanks to Andy for apiary gift, much appreciated! Really kind of you. Will use a little in homemade lemsips this evening.
Turkeys had an 85% discount at supermarket. £75 of bird for £12 or so.

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
Would it not be easier just to stick prefinished plasterboard already stuck to foil insulation direct to the wall?
No timber required, quicker easier install,

Re: ASHP & triple glazing
I did the in one of my rooms. I had the 50mm PIR and then 11mm plasterboard. Its worked fine apart from where some kids launched themselves at the wall and a couple of screws hadn't quite pulled everything in tight. The plaster skim popped off around the heads. The framing is all over the place.Joeboy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 8:18 am A quick check on a local builder merchant and I can save £15 per 1.2mtr width by fitting 25mm pir board and then 9.5mm plasterboard over the top of it it.
I'd need to make a framing map of the existing wall and use 50mm screws but seems plausible. Also, I'd get an extra 7.5mm thickness of pir board over the manufactured 17.5/9.5 boards.
Thoughts? Am I missing something?
Thank you to yourself for the kind loan of the battery It's currently charging up to 100% to match the rest of the stack.I think its going to take 24 hours at the 6A I have.
