I'm OK with that!
When we fitted bi-folds to the back of our lounge, I also took the opportunity to fit matching french doors to the kitchen. The wife insisted on internal blinds in the kitchen doors, she wasn't bothered about the much bigger bi-folds, very strange.

Anyway, the kitchen blinds haven't been shut for years now, I've no real idea why she insisted on them.

We are overlooked, but it's not ever bothered me, and weirdly the wife was only worried about the kitchen, although it's some years ago now, it may have been the cost for doing all of them that put her off doing the lot, glad we didn't.

This is good to know. We are up at 1am and have had a wee breakthrough. We can buy 4 motorised roller blinds for £844. The original local company can make manual bottom up blinds in the width We need for the trapezoidals.

We'll see them tomorrow for a quote on the two traps and also the other 4 in motorised roller. That should bring the whole room in for a couple of grand and we can maybe not have a blind on the side door. I can live with that!

I am amazed at the complexity of this. What a PITA!

There are a huge amount of diy automation options out there for blinds. I had no idea.

Plan C (or is it H) for blinds. The 2 trapezoidal windows will be fitted with vertical.blinds on the sloped top rail and the rest will be on motorised rollers.

On the heat pump, the figures are slowly creeping up into "no way, just no way" territory. :D If this pattern continues we will see single digit consumption. :o

How noisy is your AroTherm?

I came across a thread on the OEM forum where quite a few people were having noise issues with the 7kW units, Urban Plumbers have even stopped fitting them.

Very little down to none. At 2 mtrs distance you hear a low hum maybe but over the top of that hum that I'm deliberately listening for I can clearly hear birdsong.

Is that you in full pre installation fretting mode? I go there! :D

If the unit was installed in say a smallish courtyard or similar then I could maybe see a case for the sound bouncing about and being more noticeable.

Fintray has a 10kW unit which is the double stacker and I don't think he's said anything about noise? You could ask for it to be fitted on anti vibration mounts if worried.

In fullblast de ice mode then yes you will hear it a little more. Say at 4 mtrs, but if you are talking that masks it.

Ive got a 12kw midea. If i had to liken it to any noise, at full whack from 2metres away it sounds about as loud and the same similar whooshing/low hum noise as cars driving along a main road when you are 3/4roads away in a back garden.
Its not absurd in any way.

I think that is the standard mount for the Arotherms.

Only after reading that thread I linked to, the 10 and 12 kW versions have scroll compressors which are quieter, the smaller models have rotary compressors, but it only seems to be the 7kW version that suffers with it, but on that thread it seems to be older models reporting unusual noises.

It does have me a little concerned if there is a particular issue with the 7kW models, normally they are not noisy.

Well that's worked out well.

The 2 trapezoidal windows will be fitted with vertical blinds on the sloped top rail (swmbo idea of course) :praise: . Supplied & fitted by a local company, manual operation, self weighted so no bottom chain. The rest will be motorised rollers, sourced from online. Pretty sure we're not going to fit a blind on side door. Hopefully get it all done in the big lounge for about £1,750.

A slight discount on £7,702! :o
Aye, and for that ridiculous price I was allowed to collect them myself from Dundee branch (200 mile round trip) AND fit them myself. Lucky, lucky me eh? How could I let that personal growth opportunity pass me by?

After that we'll see what we can reuse, reclaim/ motorise in the rest of the house. 10 roller swatches on the way up.from the Southern Shire and swmbo can match what she likes at the local supplier .

The cop madness continues

I was half hopeful/half joking when I said about the single digit scenario.
