KSM contacted me this morning. Front door is going in on Monday, that's one day earlier start than we agreed for phase 2 3g start :)

I guess they want to do everything to try and close out the job by Friday to get paid! :D

They also have control of the remaining glazing units including the feisty trapezoidals.

These already fitted top hinged 3g windows are definitely superior air catchers compared to the inward opening tilt & turn fitted previously.

Makes sense with hindsight but not obvious when we mostly think about keeping heat in. Worth remembering if any of you are doing a glazing upgrade?

This ashp and triple glazing has been an excellent way to deploy some of our 25% taxfree pension money as has the simplicity of the electric blinds. Doesn't seem much in the greater scheme of things but the blinds have had a net positive pleasant impact. :xl:

Cutting about Belfast this afternoon, got a phonecall from Window Supply Co. We're really sorry but a forklift clipped and smashed one of your trapezoidal glazing units.

My immediate reaction over which I had no control was to say "Oh just f**k off" and hang up. Not my best moment to be honest but heartfelt and said with feeling.

On the upside saw my first robot in the wild. It's a waiter at Sip & Stone Belfast Int.

Turn it to your advantage JB, two times has got to be worth a 10% discount for the bother as a minimum ?

Gutted

You’ll get there, loads of embarrassment from the supplier and, as Moxi says, discount for all of your ‘upset’

Enjoy Belfast - still one of our ‘to do’s’, but we tend to look further south ;)

Time to be philosophical and chill as the project will be delivered.

Decent charge rate.

Then it leapt up. :D Peak was 152kW, charger throttled at that. 1 mile range each 5 seconds.

No worries Ronski, thank you. They say a week turnaround. We'll see!

The one trapezoidal that survived its 11 day stay with the window suppliers is the single unit. The unit that is linked to a further two windows via the welded cill.is the one that was smashed.

When I have the discussion at the end of the job I'll be reminding the installers of this mail we sent on the 21st April.

"Morning Claire,

We were having a walk about the village this morning discussing the upcoming works. The one potential failure point that we can see is a repeat of the broken trapezoidal glazing units.

What are we doing to ensure that there is no reoccurrence of that? From our end we can offer onsite storage in our house for the glazing units. This can be from anytime we return home 25th April through to fitting date. The only dates we can't offer to be there are 1st & 2nd May.

I am very much hoping you guys have these units stored somewhere already in your control but can only ask.

Cheers

Joe & Catherine "

I may also have caught a lie yesterday. The window supplier said oh this is the first unit that has been broken. The only other thing was a huge delay in the lead time on the trapezoidals. She then backpedaled and fluffed oh yeah, I'd forgot blah blah blah. This means that the installers lied to me to cover themselves for not ordering the fancy glazing in enough time even though they had five months to act.

I am trying to be philosophical about this as it doesn't affect the outcome of the job but I can't stand liars. I am also now seeing the limitations of a smaller company trying to grow.

Then a glazing unit is broken anyway...which brings the lie to light, which then costs the supply company as they've got to pay a lot more to fast track a replacement glazing unit through another company to cover the imaginary broken unit delay which was a late order....Lies eh? Don't do it kids, they will get ye in the end!

Sorry to hear this Joe.
Im much the same. The truth can be worked with, and I can be fairly accepting and forgiving.
Lies put an end to any ability for trust.
It seems to be the go to these days instead of proper customer service and care.

I expect attitudes like that from larger companies who have a big enough base not to care.
Experience tells me the bottom line, not customer service matters most and they can easily absorb things like that, whereas smaller companies are much more likely to be worrying about every aspect of such.
Think how careful any of us would have been storing our own windows, or anyone elses on their behalf for that matter.
Breathing too heavily next to them would be risk assessed.

I hope they get their act together and see you right, fast.
Id be personally sending a colleague down to the fabricators to pick up the glazing unit and guarantee it is handled with maximum care.
Didnt you say they were glasgow based?!
Not that far for peace of mind after so many cock ups.
